A few people that I know have gone to therapy and/or taken medication for depression but they’ve come out worse. I’m scared to go through a trial and error trying to find something that might or might not help me. Also, don’t want to be dependent on taking drugs 24/7. Any advice?

Scared to seek professional help
I guess it depends on how you feel and what your quality of life is.
I had no quality of life. I'm on meds and twice a week therapy. It's working for me. But, may not work for someone else.
You need to consider your needs and expectations, if you are at school or college, you need to be able to concentrate on their learning.
Your GP will help you to move on, sometimes medications do not follow the correct pathway for you, however there are other ways they can help, like CBT where they will help you talk out your problems, in the first instance
Make an appointment possibly a double on, write a list of your concerns and depression, that will help you explain your needs and expectations

Hi Chocolate Ducks
I've lived with mental health issues most of my life (I am 66 years old) and it's only in the last few years that I have started to understand my illness. The stigma and the fact that I am a man means that I have denied my illness in the past. My current episode started about 7 years ago after a life changing illness. I have tried CBT without success but have been stable for a number of years with the help of medication.
Please do ask for help, it is available. You may need to try different strategies until you find what suits your condition. There is no shame in admitting that you have a mental health issue, please ask for help - your GP should helpyohelp you.
Good luck.
