Hi I started on Fluoxetine in July and felt worse before I got better. I am now back to normal so I just want to encourage others that you will feel better just give it time.
Fluoxetine : Hi I started on Fluoxetine... - Mental Health Sup...
Fluoxetine
Thank you for this. I have been prescribed this but am scared to take it at the moment.
FYI....Please be very careful with this med.I was on it for a long time.It started out good BUT I later developed a rare illness with no cure, because of this med.You can educate yourself by looking up NCBI/govt reports about Fluoxetine/Prozac and other meds.If u develop side effects that ur doc says is unrelated or unreported..think twice about this med and educate yourself. Best to u.
Be an advocate for ur own body and health....that's what I didn't know to do and I believed everything the docs told me...now I pass this life lesson on to others so they don't land up like me!!
I don't know about the "rare illness" referred to by hippolove1, and I would be interested to learn more about that from them.
All I can say is that I have been on Fluoxetine for almost 15 years, with a short break in the middle to try something different as I was worried it wasn't working on me any more. I then had alarming experiences with other ADs, so I went back to Fluoxetine and eventually I settled down again.
My own experience was that it started working almost straightaway, with no side effects or dramatic differences, it just helped me stay calm and stopped my extreme over-reactions to emotional or difficult situations. It just seemed to level off my moods - and that was such a relief after a lifetime of drama, anger, sadness, anxiety and phobias. I was on 20mg for most of the time but this summer I started experiencing irrational irritability, impatience and sleeplessness, so my dose was increased to 60mg per day, and I am hoping to reduce that very soon as I'm feeling much better now. It suits me. I can't promise it will suit everybody, but my own experience has been nothing but positive.
Its Dystonia...movement disorder/ one of the causes is by certain medications. Please note..Everyone is different and doesn't mean if u take Prozac/Fluoxetine..u will land up with Dystonia. I don't wish it on anyone!!
How long did it take for you to feel better? I started it Sunday and my anxiety has been through the roof since
