I have been on fluoxetine a week and am starting to feel worse. My stomach is so tense and I don’t feel like dealing with anything. I do know they will work eventually but it’s very uncomfortable in the mean time.

Fluoxetine
Hi Orangey555,
You may find this information about Fluoxetine helpful from the Medicines Compendium UK: medicines.org.uk/emc/produc...
Do let your doctor know how you are feeling and responding to these medications, as they should be monitoring you and adjusting your doses with 3 to 4 weeks of commencing it. I hope you begin to feel improvements soon.
Best wishes,
MAS Nurse and Moderator
Hi Orangey555,
Fluoxetine initially can make you feel like that. Usually within a week it gets adjusted with your system. You can try taking it with meals to reduce these effects. These medicines usually take atleast 2 weeks to show their effect. I hope it helps.
You can look up the medications as described by MAS Nurse, however you need to consider how long the drub will take to work, generally allow five weeks then hopefully you should loose these side affects you describe. Bladder concerns sound like an additional problem. Your GP should be able to help
Let us know how you get on.
BOB
It took me 8 weeks before I started to feel an effect
It’s been two weeks now - I have short calm periods but otherwise it’s relentless negative thoughts and knotted stomach. I am hoping for an improvement next week
I wish I could give you some more constructive advice on how to instantly make it better but really you do just have to wait it out. I know how awful it is. I was told that it gets worse before it gets better. Just know that it WILL work, you just have to be patient x
Also I don’t know if this is helpful or relevant to you, but the stomach could be a separate issue? I totally understand that it can be from depression/anxiety, you can feel it in your stomach. But it turns out that my depression is actually linked to coeliac disease. Since most of your serotonin is produced in the gut, digestive issues are definitely linked to depression. Again, this might not apply to you, just something to consider.
