I have recently been prescribed 25 mg Tryptizol to treat my depression.
I have been prescribed many other "newer" anti depressants, but they all came with very undesirable side effects, one of which nearly killed me? That was Lamictal. That gave me SJS and my face swelled up like a balloon, and my liver and kidneys shut down!
My psych told me not to take any SSRI or SNRI, because I am very obviously allergic to them!
I have found that the Tryptizol has helped me a lot, but I am only taking a single dose of 25 mg in the evening. Side effects have only been a dry mouth and dry and red eyes!
The patient leaflet recommends a dosage of 50 - 150 mg a day for depression though?
Higher dosage tablets are not available where I am!
Does anyone have experience of taking 25 mg twice daily, and when do you take it?

Hi patez and welcome to this caring community where you will receive help and support from other members. Amitriptyline can make you feel sleepy so it is best to take it in the evening or before you go to bed. As _Alex_ has posted, perhaps your doctor is being cautious due to your other bad reactions to antidepressants. It is positive to hear that this medication is helping you.
