Hi Gelat,

Welcome to our supportive community. Hopefully, you will find folks here who can share from their wealth of experiences. It does seem harsh and ridiculous to be told you are too old to be diagnosed with BPD, mental health problems are no respecter of age or person. That is age discrimination and you could complain to PALS (Patient Advise and Liason Service) about her attitude and the impact has had on you! Go back to your GP and explain what happened and ask to be referred to a psychiatric doctor, not, unfortunately, in this case, a nurse. You need professional medical help and support. In the meantime take a look at these links below for more information:

Hi, when you refer to BPD are you talking about Borderline Personality Disorder or Bipolar Disorder? I automatically think of Borderline Personality Disorder as that is what I was diagnosed with 4 years ago but our wonderful nurse has given you links for Bipolar.

In any case, it would be wrong of the GP to give you a definitive diagnosis on a mental health condition so referring you to a mental health nurse is the correct course to take and the help you get will be more specific to your needs. Take care xxxx
