Should I get my hormones checked before getting tested for bipolar?

I will be getting a psychiatric evaluation in the next few weeks. I was reading an article just now talking about how bipolar is misdiagnosed alot of the time because the main reason you are having the mood swings and all the bipolar symptoms be is because of a hormonal imbalance. This has me worried now that if I do get diagnosed as bipolar I will always be worrying wether it is something else and j got misdiagnosed. What hormone tests should I get done to ease my mind?

Ask your GP, especially if it will help you to control your Mental Health Problem. Only Health Professionals can actually say if these tests are needed. Depending on Sex etc and your age that may dictate if they will consider checking you out

What I find, or think as we get older the body must in some ways deplete of hormones.

That is my own opinion and I may be wrong.

I am wondering the same. I was diagnosed with bipolar probably 10-12 years ago. I recently went back to the psychiatrist after taking a few years off and he sent me for a blood test to check my thyroid. It came back normal, but I'd be interested in further testing. I called an endocrinologist and they wouldn't see me unless I had tests that showed an abnormality or a preexisting condition (mental health disorders didn't count).

Hi, My psychiatrist check my levels of Thyroid hormone from time to time. Bipolar and depression symptoms could be wrong interpreted causing a bad medication for it. Thyroid hormone disorders do cause depression in SOME cases. Look for a GP that could give you an order for testing your levels of (mostly common): TSH, T3 Free (also kn own as FT3), T4 Free (aka FT4), TPO, TRAb, Thryoid antibodies. And with these exams on you hands, go to an specialist like a endocrinologist. Not stay with just one opionion. There are too much GP's that don't know to enough to interpret all of these exams. FT3 and FT4 are most used but NOT ENOUGH to determine most of the Thyroid diseases. Also on this community someone have recommended me to take exams for vitamins (B12, foliate, even celiac test). Have a good luck.
