I'm new to this and have never posted anything on a forum before.
I have resently started online therapy and my councelor wants me to go to the doctor and get antidepressants as she thinks I'm suffering from depression. I have never been able to talk about my feelings and stuff (hence speaking to a Councillor via messages instead of face to face) and the thought of talking to a doctor panics me. I also don't like the idea of being on medication. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

I have recently started taking anti depressants and I too was anxious about talking too a dr but the reason that got me there was because I knew I wouldn’t get better without going and that’s also the reason why I take the anti depressants and I would just like to say that there really isn’t a need to be anxious about visiting the dr because they are very helpful and understanding of you
How did you manage to talk to your doctor? What happened at your appointment if you don't mind me asking?
Do you think the anti depressants are working? We're you offered any therapy as well? Sorry loads of questions! It just because when I think about going to the doctors I almost have a panic attack and I'm not sure that it is worth the stress of it. On the other hand my depression seems to be getting worse and I have suicidal thoughts most days.
I made an appointment and I too had really bad anxiety as I was waiting too be seen and when I first started to talk to the dr and it takes time for anti depressants too work so for me I don’t think they are working yet or maybe I might need a stronger dose or a different one and I wasn’t offered therapy as I have already had lots of therapy and it has never worked but if you wanted therapy then they would probably get you that and I thought the same about if it was worth all the hassle but my depression also got worse and I was also having suicidal thoughts and knew that I had too do something about it
Sorry I forgot too answer the first bit about what happened in the appointment. The doctor just asks question about your mood and if you have self harmed or thought/attempted suicide and just general any mental health background and history off meds if you have one
The first week or so I felt really tired and fatigued but that might have just been me not sleeping properly rather than the meds

Medications and CBT (Therapist) are the two main ways of gaining help for your condition.
The third action you need to learn is how to help yourself. These are the three actions that will help you. Interaction on phone or web are slow, recommendations become problematic to explain to you. To see the Therapist helps vital interaction
When it comes to medications, hopefully after five weeks you should be able to begin controlling and talking to your therapist. Remember you are also in partnership with your GP as far as your health is concerned, The Practice and Partners are there for you to get you better and at peace
Personally I feel you need to be brave, meet your therapist face to face, take medications as prescribed. Follow the recommendations explained face to face by your Therapist.
Three actions will help you move your Depression on
1) See your Therapist face to face, A first appointment may be a telephone Assessment.
2) Take your medications as prescribed, allow five/six week for those to work that will help relax your mood
3) Follow the instructions of your therapist. The main person that will help is yourself, with recommendations from your CPN etc
Thank you very much for your help. I think you are probably right that I do need to see someone face to face and talk things through. I'm not sure that I can handle it though.
You will manage ok, not seeing the therapist is so impersonal and they need to understand the dynamics of your problems and life choices to help. It is easier as well
to cover more ground when you are sitting together.
If you need to chat here there are many people who will be able to help you confront your Demons. When that is done you will hopefully get better all the quicker.
