How do I overcome these feelings please

Being made redundant after 17 years in 3 weeks they have zapped all the confidence out of me in the last 2 years, no partner and Dads very ill so I cant talk to my parents. I expect I need to see a Doctor as im having very dark thoughts. Sorry im winging xxx

Hello and welcome to this very supportive community. We are very sorry to hear that your Dad is so ill and you don't wish to worry your parents. That is very caring of you but my guess is that they already suspect that there is something wrong as parents tend to do that, because they are close to you. Also we can appreciate that losing your job can cause you to have developed a temporary low self esteem. Things will improve though, and the first step is to have a frank chat with your GP about how you are feeling. Also about the worry you have due to your Dad's illness. This will start to help you heal.

Perhaps some counselling is needed and/or a short course of medication. The health professional can help. Also so can the job centre.

Lastly you don't need to say sorry here as you are with people who care about what happens to you and I suspect that some of our members also have some tips for you.

I'm guessing you can't see the wood for the trees just now, but if your company have destroyed your confidence then perhaps this is a blessing in disguise. You should definitely try and see your doctor if you aren't feeling well and I'm sure there's plenty of support to be had here x
