Sertraline 100mg

Hi, I started medication Sertraline a month ago. I was on 50mg for 3 weeks, then started 100mg 2 weeks ago as per my doctor. Does it take a month for the new dose to kick in? Any answers will help as I can’t teach my doctor. He also won’t prescribe me a benzo and I don’t feel that Zoloft really helps except for negative thoughts. My anxiety has been pretty bad still.

Hey there.i was in the same position as you were in March last year. Was on 50mg for a month. Then upped to 100mg .it did take me a good 6 maybe 8 weeks before i could feel a difference. My only side effect was spots and sleep disturbance. I did ask my dr in jan this year if i could come off them but my review is in march 2018. Trust me .. stick with it . I could not have coped this year without them as i have chronic illness and now mobility issues. They are my miracles in a box .. good luck 😊

Thank u so much for your reply, it means a lot! I def notice a difference in my mood and I noticed I sleep way better now with setraline. I also take Vistaril at night to help me sleep, so if there is any insomnia with setraline it’s helping to beat that. It’s been a month in total on setraline and I notice I feel very drowsy and tired most days.

I'm on 50mg of sertraline myself hun, but I am not very good at remembering to take it as I keep mine downstairs so that I don't lose them as myself and my fiance are in the middle of packing to move in to our new flat next week. The funny thing is though hun I keep mine on the pc desk with my inhaler and I still forget to take it.

in reply to sophiesmummy13

Has the 50 mg helped? My doc put me on 50mg for 3 weeks then 100mg for the past 2 weeks. I was asking if it takes 6-8 weeks to notice a difference in changing the dose or not

I honestly couldn't tell u hun as I've been on the 50mg for about 6 months now. They do work for me when I remember to take them.

I take sertaline 150mg every day for 9 months now I've been diagnosed with Extreme Anxiety I had to go buy a pill box keep them in with days written on them as I forget. I'm also on anti sickness tablets as get Anxiety so bad I get badly sick with it.

in reply to Mandiet

I used to have anxiety so bad I had diarrhea all the time. I’ve only been taking setraline for one month. I was previously on Buspar but I don’t know if it was working or not. I have generalized anxiety disorder with ocd traits.

in reply to Mandiet

I’m sorry to hear that, anxiety is a horrible mental illness. I also started the medication because my anxiety and trouble sleeping was horrible. I couldn’t fall asleep or stay asleep other than 1-2 nights a week and I have to work full time which is very hard when u are anxious and sleep deprived. I also felt hopeless and sad most of the day.

Think there is a private chat on this website love. You need to attend some counselling as this will put you in touch with others and give you more support. Ask your gp. Love and hugs x

My GP always tells me I need councelling but my sister is a drug and alcohol councillor so I talk to her but I seem in my family I've taken it the worst I really don't want to go see councillor sorry for sounding blunt but nothing they can say or do will bring my brother back x

Hponme in reply to Mandiet

Don't apologise! That's a fair comment. At least you have your sister to talk things over. I lost my grandfather 16 years ago. We were extremely close. He was my father figure and protected me from my biological father- he was quite violent and a bully. Hence I have PTSD. When he died I felt empty and afraid for years. I went for counselling and it helped. But it's not for everyone x

When I started taking it, it took a good 5 weeks for the side effect to go away, which includes heightened anxiety. It took a full 6 weeks for me to start feeling like the med was working, but I now feel better than I have in years. Hang in there and I hope it starts working for you soon.

in reply to SpeaktheTruth

Thank u, I know the side effects are a huge list and I have had nausea for the past 10 days and today I was feeling overwhelmed and felt lonely and tired of life and I cried for like 4 hours, after work.

Sorry you have to go through all this. The nausea was bad for me as well. It really helped when I took ginger root pills to settle my stomach and also, I ordered Sea Bands from Amazon and they seemed to work. They were only $9 so I figured they were worth a try.

Thank u!

Hi love ! I've been on the same dose as yourself for 18 months. The dose itself should be a lot quicker to get going as you've been on 50mgs for a few weeks. I suffer with PTSD but still have my lows even on meds. Just give it a little longer. Xmas and new year do cause additional and unnecessary stress ! Take things slowly and if no improvement by the end of the week then go to back to your gp. It's important that you recognise the lows as well as the highs. Sertraline is a strong drug so remember to take care of yourself-lots of pampering! Remember the first hurdle is to recognise the problem, the second is to take medication regularly, the third-well just breathe and take each day as it comes...then slowly unwind. So basically you're nearly there love ! Best of luck and hope this has helped ! X

in reply to Hponme

Hi, i appreciate your message. The medication works for some of the symptoms . I was just asking if it takes another 4-8 weeks to see an improvement in the dose, meaning I have less symptoms. The doc didn’t explain it to me but I’ll ask him in my next appointment.

in reply to Hponme

Thanks a lot, you cheered me up, as setraline has been making me feel sad all over again. I do believe I have major depressive disorder but the doctors don’t see it. Idk what to do, my medical file says “mdd unspecified, anxiety disorder, unspecified and ptsd unspecified. I believe Zoloft is used to treat all three conditions.

Hponme profile image
Hponme in reply to

The problem is when it's unspecified the docs are just guessing which meds will work which can cause more distress for the patient. Do you attend therupy ? I only say this as I've been attending therupy over the years and only until last year had a diagnosis of PTSD. It was a lot of hard work and at times painful but I got there in the end. Sometimes doing deep therupy like this helps you more to see you are on the right path. X

I have been on 200mg a day and has definitely aided in calming my MH issues I am also on 300mg of pregabalin to help with Anxiety and even then it still doesn't seem to be enough but it helps to battle the intrusions.

I have being on setraline for years after birth of my son in 2015 I increased to 150 and did great in fact was doing that good that I taught in may of this year with doctor consent that I would reduce so I did to 100mg then in September my anxiety came back so increased back up n eventually got to 200mg then I got assessed and they decided to taper me down off setraline n start Effexor then after been seen by a different phsyicarst he decided not to change me so after tapering my way down to 50mg of setraline I had to start all over again so started back on 50mg then 100mg for 2 weeks then up to 150mg I am currently on day 19 was feeling pretty good just before Christmas since day before Xmas eve I felt crap again is this just a setback?xx

in reply to J2017

Well when you change meds and doses it can cause you’re feelings to be out of whack. Yesterday I cried for like 4 hours although I was doing so well since mid October.

I took 50mg of Sertraline, but that didn't improve my mood, so about a couple weeks ago, I was recommended to up the dosage to 100mg. I don't feel better, but it blocks me from dispairing… but, I don't feel better. I feel more disconnected from the world around me, and I still feel sad, as well as lacking energy and motivation to do things. I still dispair, actually. I'm very confused right now. Anywho…

It works differently for everybody, but I think you'll start to feel the effects after a week or so. It doesn't take as long as the initial dosage to make a difference, based on my research. Good luck, dear.

in reply to DiZia

Zoloft has improved my mood, but I am very tired during the day and I don’t have motivation to do anything either at my current dose. I’m also weening off of Buspar so I’m thinking maybe the Zoloft isn’t working that well because I’m on both medications. I’m thinking of just going off Buspar staring tomm and just stick with Setraline. My doc told me if my anxiety is really bad to give him a call.

Hello I would like to start by saying apart from the lack of sleep you have until your body adjusts to the drug. I am on 200mg and have Been for a number of years how ever I find that if I come off them or stop them could take a week or so before I notice a change within my mood and as for the negative thoughts well on them I am fine with out them I have them all the time and don’t like been around anyone if I don’t take them
