Sertraline

 My 12th day on Sertraline. Feel terrible, very depressed, as bad as I have every been. Very little energy, failing appetite. The doctor says to stick with it, will improve after 3 weeks. But do they know the pain we are going through?

It does take at least 2 weeks to work, sometimes 3.

Yes I would agree with your GP, although I would give it an actual week on top of that.

The reason I say this is if you come of this medication it could take longer for you to get relief. So I would be patient and give it more time.

We all seem to have similar experiences with these medication, just give it a bit longer and hopefully soon all will be ok

Hello I've been taking setraline for about 6 weeks now and the only side effects I've had with them were a bit of nauseousness and a bit of loss of appetite otherwise my husband has said that I'm beginning to get back to my old bubbly self and it was only within the second week of being on Setraline although only being on a fairly low dosage. I was initially prescribed flouxetine which did not agree with me at all. After having been taking Flouxetine for about a week I sunk further into depression and also started having panic attacks in the middle of the night. My GP took me off of the of the flouxetine for a week and then started me on a very low dosage of Sertraline, initially 25mg increasing by 25mg every 2 weeks after and now I am on 100mg. This has worked a treat for me. My GP has advised that each patient will respond to medications differently but the only way you will know what works for you is to try a different ones until you find the one right for you. For you taking Sertraline for 12 days if you've seen no improvement I would be tempted to have a discussion with your GP.

Thanks Kymm. On Sertraline for 3 weeks now. Felt a bit lifted in the beginning but some terrible lows and depressoion. Have lost about 1kg a week. Very scary. Seeing doctor tomorrow. I expect she will probably increase the dose.

Hi again Shandon, I'm so sorry to hear that. I've also lost weight (more than a stone since I've started taking anti-depressants). My appetite at the moment is completely non-existent and I feel that this unfortunately is impacting on me fully getting back to normal but I'm working on that. I trust that your appointment goes well tomorrow and you find the right dosage that works for you. Take care.
