Hello Lynsey

I hear that you are mentally drained and that you have been up and down all weekend. Have you tried listening to any Mindfulness guided relaxation? You can download it from YouTube. Why not try it, give it a listen. But give it time Lynsey, when you find a track you think you like listen to it several times. You may find it useful.

It sounds like you may need something to distract you. Is there anything you like doing, you do not have to be good at it, what about a children's colouring book and some colouring pencils, maybe drawing or dot to dot. How about a walk looking at the nature around you or people watching while having a coffee? There are so many things you could count the number of people wearing a certain colour coat, or hat or jumper. The number of dogs. The list is endless, little games to distract the mind. Have a go, what have you got to lose? You may even have some fun and we all need to have some fun.

Mindfulness and hygge can work a treat. I think humans get so caught up and focused on our every day lives that we forget how to open our minds up. CBT and reading about mindfulness teaches us to do this, to focus on whatever we are doing in the moment in order to release us from all the traffic in our heads.

I'm a big fan of hygge - candles, warmth, hot chocolate, log fire (would love to have one of these but can't afford to install one).

What does hygge stand for?

It's a Danish word that is best translated to "cosiness" in English. It describes how the Danish live and they are recognised as being one of the happiest countries on the world, even though they don't see daylight for most of the winter. You should google it, it's been an interesting trend and has similarities with mindfulness :)

Thank you WantToChange. I will certainly Google 'hygge' and satisfy my curious mind. I think I remember seeing a small hardback book on my 'travels' too.

Hi Lynsey. Seems like you have a lot on your plate and it is draining you. I would suggest that when possible, take some time off enjoying what you enjoy most in life without feeling guilty at all. Rest. You deserve it. If it makes you feel better, consider it a reward after days of hard work.

If this is not possible, then you have to scan your workload. Is there any work that you can efficiently share the workload with (for example, doing it with your teammate)? Is there any work that is more important now than the other? Prioritize and this will cut down what you have to do today (or this week).

Hope this helps!
