My long term partner had a break down and I didn't see it coming. Now he is pushing me away and blaming me. I am not eating or sleeping and have been prescribed citalopram> I don't know how to cope and feel like giving up

Hi.
Why is he blaming you for his breakdown? Is he getting help and support from the doctors or mental health team?
You need to look after yourself first and foremost. Not eating isn't going to help, sleeping can be more difficult. Hopefully the citalopram will help you to feel stronger.

I am not being blamed as such but he is bringing things up that I have said (which I have said without realising how hurtful they were). One minute he is positive about our future then he doesn't care
Has he got any external support from doctors, mental health services, family or friends? We do tend to push away those closest to us without meaning to and having someone outside our relationship to talk to can help. I'm sure it is his depression talking and that is why he seems like he doesn't care, all you can do is be supportive but make sure you look after yourself aswell.

He wants to deal with this himself by going away camping to clear his head. He is on meds but doesn't want counselling.
