Weaning off Citalopram and withdrawals

Hi all, this is my first post in the Depression Support forums. Hope everyone is as good as can be expected.

I've been in a really bad place for a long and I feel like my Citalopram just isn't cutting it anymore. I'm on 40mg and have been since October 2015. My GP has now decided to change me to Mirtazapine, but I first have to be weaned off the Citalopram. So now I'm down to 30mg for two weeks, then 20mg for two weeks and so on.

I guess what I was wondering is are there many major withdrawals to being weaned off slowly? I've read about a lot of different withdrawals but always from people who have gone cold turkey.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Much love x

I've been on the stuff for years and twice tried to come off it very quickly (thinking me tough bloke) and I strongly caution against it as the experience wasn't pleasant. The third and last time I did it properly and at a slower pace and the only side effect was weird dreams. Sadly I didn't last long off the medication but that is a different story. Coming off citrolopram and staying off it are two different things for me :)
