Hi phil176uk

I imagine there are times when they can't make a concrete diagnosis but I would say the worst thing you can do is dwell on it phil because the stress will make you feel worse. I know how hard that is and it's both worrying and frustrating, so take it easy.

I have this problem. I regularly pass out. It's been investigated many times over the years with both 24 hour blood pressure monitoring, 24 hour ECG and blood tests to make sure it wasn't heart related and EEG to make sure I wasn't having fits. These just ruled out potential problems in my case. The end result for me was a diagnosis of neuro-cardiogenic syncope or vasovagal syncope, long names for a simple faint! I've got used to it now, I can tell when it's going to happen and I lay down which sometimes allows me to recover without actually passing out.

There is an answer in as much as they say it's a problem with the vagus nerve overreacting to something and this causes your blood pressure and heart rate to drop. Some people are just more prone to this than others. That's not much help as they don't have a good way to treat it and they don't always know why it happens. It's the same problem that someone who passes out when they see blood has. There isn't anything wrong with them as such but their brain and the vagus nerve 'decide' that a good reaction in that situation is to fall to the floor unconscious!!

Are you having tests to rule out other problems or are you just waiting to see if it improves for the time being?

Hi I'm going for a ct scan in a few days on my head too check if theres anything misbehaving up there, thing is tho I don't know when its going to happen, 1st time I was walking from kitchen to passage, then its like id closed my eyes, and my legs just went, then I come to and was on ground dizzy as hell, the 2nd time I was sat utside at night cos it was warm, I got up to go in house and just keeled over hit my head and scraped skin of my hands and other places

This is tricky. I went through the same with getting very little warning a few years ago and got scrapes and bumps the same as you. The only thing I've found that helps slightly is to stand up slowly. Certainly when I get up from laying down I move to a seated position first and wait and then stand and wait for a second or two before I move. There's very little you can do though to be honest when it comes on while you're walking without warning.

It's one of those things where you don't want them to find anything wrong with you but at the same time you do, provided they can fix it easily. I hope it does improve for you soon. Please let us know how you get on.

How tall are you? Does it only happen when you are standing up? Do you get enough sugar?

My husband is tall, and if he goes from sitting to standing too quickly he can black out. I've blacked out a couple of times when I've not had enough sugar and tried to do too much- and I get tested for diabetes every year.

Hi lori I'm 5"9 its happened twice when ive been walking, ive got a ct scan on Saturday to rule out anything misbehaving in my head,
