There is always hope and support out there...and this forum is a good start..you must believe your life will get better. Keep believing.

Hi as you have found you can't bury bad memories as they keep keep escaping and giving you pain. Counselling is the way forward to help you deal with them instead. x

You are in a bad place and I feel for you.

This post might help explain why the memories keep floating back to the surface. Unfortunately trying to push them to the back of your mind can actually get you very stressed so isn't necessarily the right thing to do. You can't do anything to stop the thoughts coming but you can change the way you react to them.

Hi Hildy,

You have already been given some good advice, but I thought I'd also contribute.

I don't think it is humanly possible to live a life that is 100% pure suffering, but I could be wrong, and have lived a blessed life. You will have good memories as well as bad ones.

Counselling did me the world of good, and one of the analogies I was given has stayed with me.

The story of the two wolves. One wolf lives in the light, and one lives in the dark. Which one survives? The one you feed.

There is no benefit to trying to bury your memories, good or bad, because they are an intrinsic part of who you are know. Memories are still essentially thoughts, and thoughts will come and go if you let them. The trick is to not force them away or force them to stay.

What about creating new memories? What about directing how your future looks instead of hiding from your past?

Hi Hildy,

I'm afraid you can't bury memories, you need to deal with them first and then slowly let them drift away. it is a mistake I made and almost bought me to my end and so I won't recommend you bury them. memories are in the past and one way I had to deal with them is to acknowledge that its happened and there is nothing I can now do otherwise I would be going around circles forever. My advice would be to please seek counselling. talk about your past and these memories and with the aim that you want to let them go or lessen their effect on you. you will eventually come out as a brave and stronger person. sometimes these lurk there in back of our minds. when a situation arises that invokes those memories then it brings it all back and our knee-jerk reaction is to avoid or retreat. its happened to me so we need to train ourselves to avoid that from happening. its only natural as wild animals react in the same way but we live in a social society so we need to train our reaction to be different.
