Depersonalization
Its certainly been around in medical books for a long time - and would normally be taken as a sign that you are going crazy but it can also have a physical cause - and think it often does. B12 is one culprit - which would fit in with it happening around birth of a child as B12 is important for development so pregnant women and nursing mothers end up passing a lot of it on to their babies.
Do you still have the problem? and how long ago was the birth of your first child?
If you do still have the problem then you probably do need to mention it to your GP if not done already so they can get to the bottom of the cause.
It was 32 yrs ago. Suffered with it for months dr just said it's post part um depression and it'll go away in time. It didn't go away got worst kept calling Dr finally go referred to psychiatrist 9 months later. Had talk therapy and medication for about a year and a half. But still didn't know what happened to me dr said I was in a deep depression but I knew it was more than that. There was no Internet in 1983 ha ha. I recently found a site by accident about it and could not believe all the people that were describing there symptoms and almost word for word was describing exactly how I felt
Yes, people were quite dismissive of 'baby blues' back then - think they take more notice of it now but they can still be pretty poor in terms of looking at what the causes might be - some awareness now of the part B12 might play in the process - but there are also a lot of other things.
I take it from what you are saying that you aren't actually suffering any more - hope that is the case. If you are then it would be worth asking to have some blood tests done - just to check that it isn't something like B12 ... I had some significant problems with something that could have been described as mild psychosis but also had elements of depersonalisation when the B12 was really bad.
It can be quite difficult to get a B12 problem diagnosed properly - there are a lot of other effects of B12 deficiency which include anaemia, high blood pressure (plays a part in pre-eclampsia), and neurological problems - pains, numbness, loss of balance ...
Yes I am over it now. It was 32 yrs ago. Thanks for replying g ambit had therapy and medication in therapy they dig deep and things were stressing me out that I didn't even realize cuz I buried them so dee p.
glad that the therapy worked for you - don't think it or pills ever did anything for me - though fluoxetine did get me to a mellow enough place to realise that other people's bad driving was really there problem and I didn't need to make it mind ... though it might just have been that I was doing meditation at the time.
You need to take this problem to your GP, you have a child and some of the problems with this condition can be serious, although they can be medically controlled with treatment and medications
Are you on the anxiety support site ??
