So Ive been looking for a new job and have been accepted to go to one of the open days for cabin crew opportunities at emirates... (air hostessing) so they can see me in the flesh and have a conversation and so they can see what I look like apparently - been reading up on the applicant experience of the interviewing process online.
At first I was really excited and happy about it!! But the more I think about it I can feel negative thoughts and feelings sneak their way in, its supposed to be quite a long process to actually get through and apparently you have to be absolutely stunning to get through to a 1 to 1 interview, part of me is hoping I don't go through this whole process and not get through - probably thinking too far ahead but if I went through all the trouble and didnt get through it would effect me badly I just know it!!
I probably need to just chill out, prepare myself for the 1st stage of the process and keep positive!! See I know what I should do but its so hard!!!!!!x
Liz, just be yourself and go for it. Just to get accepted for an interview is great. Try to relax and don't be too hard on yourself. Good luck and take care of yourself.. Regards Lorna
Whow !! you cannot beleive this I just replied to you and my reply disappeared before I could send it> so I will keep this short:- dont put all your eggs in one basket to avoid disappointment ie apply with Kathy Pacific airways also living in Manchester a lot of young people I know are always applying for jobs I have 3 friends all daughter work on the airlines - just nice girls (not stunning) look after themselves with make-up and hair and are slim, do loads of research before interview thats the key look at different person specs for the job. Be a team player - look smart and just be yourselve in interview kind caring - people person. One girl is based in Manchester and lives at home the other girl - lives in Abu Dhabi in shared flat with the other girls/staff she loves it (she works for emirates) make sure you know the culture & dress. just do your homework before interview and you will be fine. Its hard work but they all enjoy it and the money is good and you will be too busy then to think of depression ha ha. Good Luck apply to more airlines though. juex
Give yourself a high five for getting to the interview. They see enough in you to want to get to know you more. Look in the mirror every morning smile and tell your soul this is your chance to shine!
I don't want to put a downer on you but Emirates withdrew an offer of employment last year to a hostess because she had a history of depression on her medical records. I don't know your situation or if you knew but would hate for it to happen to you. Google Megan Cox.
As Hannah says though the interview is good experience whatever happens, don't assume you won't get through but don't Rush ahead,
Airlines from certain parts of the world have a reputation for treating women differently from men, also they refused to abide my an offer of employment for a woman who had experienced mild depression previously.
