Am I the only one not looking forward to the time off for Christmas?
What is there to do? Nothing That I wouldnt normally do of an evening, sit in my room and watch frasier. I would of worked but you can only take 2 days holiday over to next year and ive already got one left.
Then its my birthday on the 2nd...I hate birthdays, ive cried the last 2. Im working it this year.
Everyone is so excited to be off work, proberly because they have their own families and partners to spend time with and be happy with.

Hi Zoe, keep strong. It seems like you may be on the right path now. Yes it can be boring but then it's only for a few days. Of course you start thinking of all the things you have not got right now but then if you are on your own at least you do not have "trouble" and you do have your self respect. Continue thinking about a long term better future for yourself. Just do simple stuff. for now. Surf the net! Look up something you're interested in. The holidays will pass. Gemmalouise x
I look forward to having a break over Christmas but don't look forward to the prospect of spending time with family and all my friends disappearing to be with theirs.
for me it's the break from work and I'm focusing on trying to get things done in the house that I don't have time for the rest of the year - like cleaning the windows and loads of other things.
Are the things you mention as doing in the evening things that you would normally enjoy doing in the evening?
This isn't necessarily a time when everything needs to be special and covered in tinsel and to be honest some of the simplest things are the best to enjoy. I remember one year when all I wanted for lunch on Boxing Day was porridge! so I had that and I really enjoyed it.
I know it won't help for this year, but my gran always made a point of booking a holiday or at least a long weekend around Christmas time after her family grew up. I'm single so I still go to my parents for a couple of days over christmas. And my sister is already starting a new tradition of inviting family to her house too. The only down side is we have to pretend to her kids about Santa!!!!
Not sure how much holiday you get each year, or whether there is the chance for unpaid leave not time? Are you planning an Easter holiday to look forward to? I've just booked one and am already getting excited.
The end of year is a time for reflection, leave room to think back on your achievements .... like getting fit running. If you can dodge the puddles it looks like sunny weather for a holiday run.
No doubt workmates will be filling face-book pages with tonnes of tinselly photos, so might be best avoided if they trigger. f.b. is great but when feeling already fed up it does feed that self-destructive tendency to compare ourselves with other people.
I've kept busy so far, as I found that during the long summer hols I really got down this year because I had too much time on my hands to brood and generally get bored. Maybe it's not a coincidence that so many people revamp their financial accounts over christmas...it's something to keep the mind busy..
Are any of your workmates / college friends in the same boat? Any of them up for a walk round the parks or a spontaneous lunch date? invite someone round for a vamped up cheese on toast...
Use the extra day off to recharge your batteries. night night
