Post vasectomy pain syndrome

Nearly 6 years ago I had a vasectomy, from day 1 I've had debilitating pain so bad that even strong pain killers such as pregabaline and cocodamol didn't even touch it. I'm now on morphine patch due to addiction to codeine. I'm now hoping to have the local anaesthetic in target area. It has pretty much ruined my relationship with my wife as my mental health has deteriorated and she doesn't trust me anymore due to after taking my own pain meds I would steal hers.

What I want to know is why don't the doctors and surgeons who perform the vasectomy tell you there is a chance,( no matter how low) that the pain never goes and you end up with pvps. We should be given all the information as to what can happen.

I too suffer from PVPS, i15 months after surgery, I am referred back to the consultant that performed the surgery, who advises I really only have 2 options...... Live with it or have it reversed. he confirmed the pain is not caused by a sperm granuloma, but by an enlargement of the epididymides caused by backpressure in the vas deferens on the testicle side of the blockage caused by the vasectomy.

£3500 for the operation as it is not funded by NHS

Hello Martin. I would like to know how long it took from your vasectomy to the reversal. Do you think time is related with whether or not vasovasostomy surgery is successful? Thank you in advance. I have the same problem, I want to do the reversal but I don´t have the money.

Rob I have suffered from the same pain as you for 30 years.it did go away for about 3 years but came back just as bad this year.it has virtually ruined the second half of my life.there are many times I had wished I was dead.you are right about pain killers.they do not help.this is the most frustrating pain I can ever imagine for a man.it has taken its toll on my relationships and my mental well being.i had an epidytimis removal that one urologist suggested but pain came back after that.i am seeing a urologist that specializes in spermatic chord denervation procedure which has had good success.i may not be a candidate.he said if I cant do that he said he could actually remove the testicle.i am really scared to do that.i dont know what to do at this point.i am a 70 year old man and hate the thought that I may have to live out my life in this debilitating pain.you are right men should know of the consequences of this simple procedure.nobody deserves to be stuck with this problem.i hope you take some comfort that you are not alone in this living hell.i know you know what I am talking about.i will let you know if I have success with anythingI am thinking of accupuntre.i hope you feel better somehow someway

Have you considered reversal? It's probably more expensive but it would treat the cause, not just kill the nerves.

Just to confirm, was this pain something that started after you had a vasectomy?

I was told that PVP was rare, less than 1%, but now it seem that most post vasectomy men that I have spoken to have pain. After 19 years of pain I'm saving up for a reversal. Hypnotherapy, NLP and EFT helped me more than pain killers did and with other positive side effects. Good luck with your recovery.
