I'll have one in for 3 weeks after an upcoming surgery. Anyone have tips on maintaining as much comfort as possible? Besides pills

From memory I don't think there's a great deal you can do apart from avoid moving the tubes around early on as it may be sore and especially don't tread on the tube (I heard a horror story of someone doing just that). First hours will be strange learning to relax and allowing urine to flow as it is contrary to your instinct to hold it in. In my case (urethrotomy) having a nocturnal erection was a killer but that may be down to the surgery I had.

You'll love the freedom from having to pee, but after that much time, dealing with it gets old. Beyond the obvious, I recommend taping it in such a manner which stabilizes it. Movement of the tube causes irritation on the meatus, and that hurts. Lubrication with a water based jelly will help some. Ask the nurse to show you the best way to do it. Also, if your foreskin is somewhat tight, beware of having it retracted for an extended time. Maintain good hygiene to prevent infection.
