Circumcision 9 days post op.

Nervoustobeabarehead profile image

Evening everyone, so I’m 9 days post op now and I’m still in real pain! It felt like it got a little better for a few days but now it feels like a step backwards which is depressing. The erections are so so bad, it’s not even just the glans or the stiches that are most painful, the entire shaft from base to stiches is horrendous, is that normal?? Also It’s still weeping around the stiches, again is THAT normal?.. Getting used to no sleep now though haha

Oh mate. Sounds like you having it rough.

I think the weeping is pretty normal but I'm sure the pain should have eased by now.

Are there any signs of infection which could be causing the pain?

Hi mate, feel like I’m being a right baby by keep posting here. Yeah I’ve been on antibiotics since Monday and I was given dihydrocodeine for pain when I left the hospital, which I’ve taken for a week, but according to the doctor they’re really constipating so I haven’t been to the toilet for a week!! All bloated and feeling sorry for myself real bad

Youre bound to be down in the dumps if your dick hurts and you feel like shit.

Sadly not everyone has it as simple and easy as others. Looks like you were just one of the unlucky ones.

Make yourself an appointment with your nurse at GP surgery for day 14 and ask her to remove stitches.

You'll progress so much better and be more comfortable without them.

Hope you feeling better soon mate.

Get yourself a dish of prunes. You won't be constipated then!

I’m 7 days post op and the wound is still weeping pretty regularly so I’m guessing it’s pretty normal.

But at night I must wake up at least 10-20 times no joke, every time I wake up I have a painful erection. I probably only get like 3-4 hours sleep.

But things can only get better. Head up and drive forward.

I know it sounds selfish but it really does make me feel better knowing that right now I’m not the only one going through this haha. I wouldn’t wish it in anyone though. Question, I have a hard lump on the shaft of my penis, about an inch from the incision and it’s painful if I apply pressure, do you have anything like that at the moment??

I was circumcised exactly 2 weeks ago...i.e. on 5 April 2018. In my case, the pain during day time was completely gone after four days. Yes, the pain at night due to erections continued till a week after which it got much better. My stitches started to dissolve on Day 7 and all the stitches dissolved by the 13th day (i.e. yesterday - 18 April). On 14th day today, I am completely stitch free and the incision wound has healed. I went to the doctor yesterday and he said that my healing was "exceptionally" quick, and not many heal so fast.

Initially, for the first 7-8 days, there may be some transparent and light yellow fluid draining from the stitches which is the lymph fluid. It is completely normal and so, not a cause of worry. However, if the fluid is cloudy/thick and has a foul smell, it is most likely an infection. An infection at the site of surgery may explain the severe pain even 9 days after the surgery. As far as pain due to nocturnal erections are concerned, they generally go away once the wound starts to heal and stitches start to dissolve. In my case, the pain due to erections at night reduced significantly after 8-9 days post-op.

Everyone heals at a different rate, so give some time to yourself for the wound to heal. Go and immediately consult the doctor whether there is any infection. If there is an infection, he will prescribe the medicines accordingly. If there is no infection, there is nothing to worry. Give yourself time as healing is different for everyone.

-----

TIP 1: If there is no infection, try to dip your penis in Chamomile solution (prepared in warm water) for 3-4 minutes twice a day. Chamomile solution has an excellent wound-healing property and also prevents infection. I started this on 3rd day after my dressing was removed and continued till Day 13 till all stitches dissolved.

TIP 2: To reduce nocturnal erections, try these 2 tricks-

a)Dont drink anything at least 3 hours before you sleep. An empty bladder reduces the number of erections at night. If your bladder is full, it creates pressure and increases erections.

b) Sleep in foetal position by drawing your knees up to your body. Foetal position reduces the chances of getting an erection.

-----

PS - I did not need any antibiotic after my operation. For pain, I took Ibuprofen for the first 4 days. After that, never needed any as the pain during day time was gone.

Remember, every day is better than the previous one. Be patient and give the body time and proper rest. :) Wish you all the best. Hope you get better soon ! Please feel free to ask if you have any question.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a long reply! Thanks for the tips, it seems as though you had it really lucky with your recovery!! Have to admit, I’m a little jealous haha. I seem to take 2 steps forward and then 1 back, today was more painful than yesterday and it’s a little disheartening.. Now the skin is really dry and flakey, so that layer is providing a much needed barrier for my glans. Little worried that once it flakes off, the skin underneath will be just as bad as before.. but time will tell. Thanks again for taking the time to reply, it’s a big help.

The flakes and peeling of glans is a normal process that will continue for next few weeks. I am also undergoing the same phase where skin on glans is getting dry, forming flakes and peeling off. If it peels off normally, don't prevent it. Let the dead, dry flakes go away. Use a STERILE cloth dipped in warm water to remove these flakes. It is perfectly normal

I'm in Day 08 and am healing pretty quick as well. The only issue is I can't really see any stitches (from day 01). I think the doctor did a good job. When you say the stitches fall out do they dry up and fall out or just dissolve eventually that you can't even tell.

charmer24_gadget While the part of stitches inside the body dissolves, the part which are hanging outside fall down.
