3 weeks today - post op Circumcision & Vasectomy

Hi Everyone,

As the title says today is 3 weeks to the day of my op, I needed a circumcision due to severe Phimosis and recurring Balinitis.

I am a type 2 Diabetic so was also seeing recurring thrush under my foreskin, I knew I needed a circumcision for years but actually going ahead was always the final jump!

I also knew from the last time I remembered pulling my foreskin back I had a lot of fused skin attached to the head of my penis, this was a big worry for me as it played on my mind what would happen with this, I said this to the surgeon before but I think he thought I was just being dramatic and he just said ‘ok’.

My frenulum was also extremely tight so had to be cut and re done.

The day came and I went down for the surgery, I was out for an hour and a half, I really thought it would be about 15-20 mins!

I was told the surgery was a success, I went down at 10:30am, was back up at 12:30pm and left the hospital at 3pm, obviously numbed to the gills I couldn’t feel a thing.

The surgeon rang me at around 5pm as he was too busy to come and see me before I was discharged, he said it all went well and then said ‘you were right about the fused skin, it was really bad, I peeled it all away, that will be sore and take around an extra week to heal so expect 3 weeks for that’

I was told just use paracetamol for the pain!

At day 2 I had a big wobble! Wondered why I had done it, was in pain, so I headed online in the hope of finding some sort of forum where people have had the same thing!

Lo and behold I found this forum and I can honestly say this was the best thing that could have happened!

I’d like to thank everyone on here who has contributed and posted and commented, you all should know that all of this really helped me, got me through the roughest period, really got my head out of a dark place.

On here I read ‘get on the ibuprofen!’ And as the paracetamol wasn’t helping I found some Nurofen Plus in the cupboard, I took 2 and honestly, within an hour I wasn’t in pain, it was great!

I thought I had a urine infection around day 5 as whenever I went for a wee I had a bad stinging sensation for around 20 minutes each time!

I managed to get a GP appointment for a urine test, the GP said it wasn’t showing infection but he gave me a weeks course of Antibiotics, just in case, which I wasn’t complaining about.

Forgot to say I also bought a ‘cup’ on Amazon to wear over my crotch to stop rubbing, especially with the raw part where my skin was pulled off, that was a bit weepy so my pants were rubbing the first few days leaving fabric on the bit.

The cup was a very good investment and proved invaluable to me, it did help I feel.

Ironically it was the Vasectomy stitches that have been the most uncomfortable thing now, one is positioned right under my penis were it meets the balls! So not comfy, once it scabbed over it is really uncomfortable.

I have not had to take any painkillers for 6 days now, all of my stitches have fell out today in the shower and the circumcision is looking good, the raw part is now nearly healed, so it’s all looking good.

I am still mostly sitting down to pee, as just feel more comfortable but at work I am standing to pee.

As I said, this forum was the best thing I found, so again thank you everyone.

I hope my post (even though it’s very long) can help anyone who needs reassuring .

You will get through it, and I’m sure everyone has a wobble, but try and be positive!

I do have one question, the head is now de-sensitised I think, but it is getting quite dry, any recommendations on what to use to not have the dry skin etc.?

Congratulations on taking the plunge and putting your health first 🔥

This forum helped me beyond explanation, so it actually doesn’t surprise me that it helped you so much.

I see a lot of people suggesting coconut oil for the dryness! Haven’t had that issue myself but people have suggested that :)
