Sex/Masturbation with Balanitis

I've had balanitis for several months now after contracting syphilis in July. I was treated for syphilis and that has been resolved, but balanitis remains. For me it appears as one red spot on the bottom left side of the penis head under the foreskin. I'm currently trying Mupirocin 2% ointment (antibiotic/antibacterial) after trying Clotrimazole (antifungal steroid), which did help but didn't cure it. My question is - should I completely abstain from sex and masturbation until this is resolved? Obviously this is very difficult as it's been about 8 months already. I know the friction can cause more inflammation, but what if I'm gentle and careful about it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You should abstain from sex while you have syphilis. It's not a considerate thing to pass that on to someone else.

I don't think masturbation has anything with STDs or balanitis either way but I think it's something you should abstain from in general. Or at least keep it limited to a couple times a month at the very most.

Thank you. I was treated for syphilis and that has been resolved. I edited my post to reflect that. Mostly wondering about the masturbation question. I have been limiting it.

Okay. When I had balanitis, I didn't notice any correlation to whether or not I masturbated. I had the issue on and off for years but more so during 2020 for some reason. I ended up getting circumcised a couple months ago. The constant need to apply creams got annoying to me.

I've been dealing with it for several months now so I'm not quite there yet, but I can understand your position. How was your circumcision and recovery experience? Did it resolve the balanitis yet?

I have many posts on my circumcision experience. And look up gr2020 also.

Balanitis is gone, yes.

Thanks mate, appreciate it.

There is nothing under gr2020 on the forum.

Why that limit on masturbation?

Did your balanitis get resolved? The clotrimazole helps but didn't solve my problem either...

Hi sorry for the late post. I also have balanitis but have had it for many years on and off. I am not circumcised.

I have had burning sensation when urinating and an itchy scrotum for several months.

Have tested negative for all stds but syphilis is the main one I’m worried about due to the fact that balanitis can be a sign of syphilis.

Did you have any burning when urinating or itchy skin on scrotum at all?
