Circumcision on the NHS

Do you get a choice on style and type of circumcision on the NHS or do you just get what they do?

I wasn’t given a choice they gave me a loose cut I was kinda upset at first but realized I prob need the extra skin

in reply toMickey2323

Did you ask for anything or just go with it?

I mentioned to him I wanted all the head to show and he kinda strongly recommended a loose cut. Aesthetically I think a loose cut isn’t as good but it kinda seems like I needed it for room for an erec

in reply toMickey2323

So when soft is your head covered and completely exposed when erect?

I’m concerned that if they take enough skin off me to keep the head exposed when soft I won’t have enough to get hard.

When I’m at my very softest it covers half . It took some getting use to but def needed the skin

Can I ask what your reason was for circumcision?

In general you will not be asked about styles or tightness, the doctor will just do his 'standard' cut. Most NHS urologists do not do enough circumcisions to get used to the different styles and how best to achieve them.

NHS only does circumcisions for medical reasons and the majority of these are due to phimosis. A non-retractable foreskin dictates the method used and where the scar will be, i.e. the tight part is removed. You’re best off looking forward to having it cured and functioning again rather than getting hung up on styles IMHO.

Hi I may be getting circumcised due to reoccurring balanitis. I have a buried penis with a lack of sensation already. I’m scared that they cut off too much inner foreskin and my frenulum to loose more sensation. When soft my penis is buried in the fat with just a bunched up foreskin but when erect I have 5.5” when i push into the fat. I can’t see how they can remove enough skin to keep the head exposed but leave enough to give me a full erection.

As you already have a buried penis, be aware that a circumcision may make that worse and you could be unhappy and regretful with the result. Sorry to say this but worth pointing out before you commit to allow you to research. Have you considered or explored having the fat removed, maybe by liposuction, as a first step?

What causes the lack of sensation

You should of done your research into this prior to your operation. Have you been keeping your glans moisturised? If not I suggest you start off by getting yourself some bio oil or some E45 or any moisturisers that suit you. Your glans would desensitise slightly due to it rubbing against clothing. But as I said previously you should of done your research and been aware of a certain cycle of the glans. If you allow your glans to dry out you will loose more and more sensations due to the layers of skin getting harder reduces the sensations from the nerves. Use lube also during play time.

I was told that it could be due to diabetes.

I wasn't given a choice. I've ended up with a loose cut as well which two months after the op Im just getting used to how it looks.

Did you have a consultation prior to the day of your circumcision or just a chat before it was done?

Literally a 2 min chat with the surgeon before the op. I was 4th that afternoon behind 3 Vasectomies 😫 Just before they gave me the local anaesthetic I reminded him which operation he was doing and to make sure he threw the right bit away 🤣

NHS you will have all of the foreskin removed no selected styles will be talked about. The NHS is about treating medical issues not cosmetic surgeries. With the NHS circumcisions there is a chance of having to have two surgeries. 99.9% of the doctors will not be aware of the styles and will only just know how to remove skin.

If you are thinking about going through with a circumcision do your research and find yourself a surgeon you feel comfortable with.

The NHS are a bloody great health service but if you are wanting to treat a medical condition with your penis and would like your penis to look a certain way best going private with a surgeon who does many circumcisions on a weekly basis.

I wish you the very best on your journey

Stay safe and well

Ahh okay mate. Definitely keep the glans moisturised don’t allow it to dry out for too long.

A standard urologist will give you their standard circumcision—which varies from doctor to doctor. Most do a low and loose cut—because they consider circumcision a medical rather than cosmetic procedure. If you have specific requests, you probably should find a private clinic that high will give you the results you want.

I went to a private clinic for this very reason; the procedure was not absolutely necessary in my case, but I made the decision to have it done to alleviate tightness. I desired for a high and tight circumcision and I couldn’t be happier. Hope this helps

FROM A WOMAN'S POINT OF VIEW: PLEASE tell the doctor what you want & get it in writing to increase the likelihood it will actually be done as you request. Don't give THEM a choice. A circumcision is something you'll have to live with for the rest of your life so do your research. For appearance, request it be done with a Gomco clamp (no ugly scar like with stitches. Stitches leave a ugly scar with little holes and the so called railroad track appearance . A Gomco leaves Just a nice, neat, clean line). My husband has a high and tight done with a Gomco clamp and it looks perfect. One last CRITICAL point, they MUST preserve as much inner skin as possible. The inner skin is sensitive, the outer skin has almost no feeling. Make sure they remove the frenulum band as it can cause problems.

Hi, thanks for your opinion. A woman’s opinion is helpful. How do you like your husbands penis now that he’s circumcised? I held my foreskin right back as if I was circumcised my wife said it looks ok but not bothered either way but preferred masturbating me with my foreskin.

When a Gomco clamp is used on an infant, there is very often no need for any stitches. However, this is not the case with adults. Their thicker foreskin cannot be clamped tightly or long enough to ensure sealing and so stitches (or tissue glue) will always be needed.
