About a week after my surgery some of my stitches popped due to night time erections. Eventually, most of them had popped and I developed an infection.
About 2 weeks after my surgery I was reassured by my consultant that it will heal but take longer. I was also given a 10 day course of antibiotics.
I received lots of advice and thought I'd share my experience so far.
Firstly, I was told to keep the wound area dry so was told to take quick showers - I was also told not to use a towel on my penis but to either stand in front of a fan or use a hairdryer on a slow cool setting. I've been using the latter method.
Secondly, I was recommended to use different types of gauze which I've used in a layered method (as seen in the picture). The first layer is a strip of Jelonet gauze which is used in the treatment of burns but was told it would help for wound healing too. It contains a paraffin gel like substance that protects the area (it seems wet but it's not wet per se). The second layer I'm using is a strip of Melolin gauze (shiny side towards wound) secured using medical tape. It is absorbent for any blood and possible gunk, cushioned for comfort and covers the area for protection. The final layer is the bandage. I've found that this sports bandage works wonders for supporting everything. It seems to be waterproof and is self securing, keeping it all in place.
It has now been just over 3 weeks since my surgery and healing has improved immensely. One area has fused together, with the other areas slowly coming together. It seems like the time is passing so slowly but progress is happening. I hope this gives some reassurance to others who have an open wound and/or an infection.
