Circumcised yesterday. Looking for healing advice/tips

Debated getting this done for so long and finally did. Not even 36 hours in to recovery, but so far so good. Went back today for my follow up to have the bandage removed. Still pretty swollen and dealing with a bit of blood oozing, but nothing worrisome or unexpected. Only issue i might foresee for now is if the oozing tries to dry and stick to underwear.

My doctor’s only instructions from here on out were to clean and wash away scabs or any crustiness that develops once a day using only water and a gauze pad or soft towel.

I’ve seen lots of posts here suggesting using salts, oils, etc... and am just wondering if anyone could advise me on when/how to use them, or if I should just stick to the simple doctor instructions? Whatever will make for the most effective and fast healing.

All in all, feeling pretty good. Any advice is much appreciated!!

Dr Hoover in Miami and due to a combination of phimosis and the aesthetic preference.

Was terrified to get it done, but the procedure itself was fast and easy. Now I’ve moved on to being terrified of the recovery process....

Please keep your wound dry and clean. I always just let warm water run down when I'm showering and use clean guaze to pat it dry follow by hair dryer to reduce any moist as moist attract bacteria. For the first few days use a clean gauze to wrap around your penis so you can walk around freely and it won't stick to your underwear for better removal. If the gauze stick to your wounds just let shower water run for few second and you can remove it easily. I only use Epsom salt water the 2nd week for 1 week . Is your glans very sensitive ?

Our body is very amazing healing wound so salt water soaking and oil etc is not necessary. Just make sure its clean and dry. Vitamin C and Zinc (consumption) is good for healing and vitamin E oil (apply) too. Bio oil is good for scar when your stitches is out and almost healed.

Thanks for this information. After the bleeding/oozing stopped yesterday I was a bit worried about it starting back up while I slept, but woke up with everything looking alright. Surprisingly (and thankfully) the glans is not as hypersensitive as I anticipated.... the scarred and swollen area beneath the glans is, but I guess that’s to be expected after surgery. I began taking oral arnica tablets a day or two before the procedure and will continue taking until the swelling goes down. I’m taking the antibiotic that was prescribed, but have stopped taking the painkiller as the “pain” fluctuates between manageable and nonexistent. So far so good!

Hey no worries. The underside of glans (frenulum) is the last to heal, it will be sensitive and tender . For some it takes awhile but for some it might take 2 to 3 months. For me it's still sensitive till now but getting a lot better. I didn't take pain killer since day 2 as there's no pain beside the erection .Hope you are doing okay have a speedy recovery.

Treat it like you would if it were a cut on your arm or anywhere else on your body. Keep it clean and dry and try not to disturb it until it seals. No need for oils or salt water or ice cubes, they’re of no proven benefit despite what people say (Google it!).

Shower rather than bath for first week as it’s more sterile.

Keep your unit pointing upwards as much as possible to help reduce or even eliminate swelling.

For blood spotting, get hold of low adherent dressing pads. Maybe fashion a tube using a pad and Micropore tape, probably won’t need that after a week to ten days.

Any signs of pus and/or inflammation may mean you have an infection and your doctor would then be best placed to advise and possibly prescribe antibiotics To prevent unnecessary scarring.

Good luck.

Congrats. My doc said to keep the area clean and dry and to take bandages off on second day. He said to apply bacitracin to incision line while it leaked lymph fluid to help keep the area infection free. I did the bacitracin for two weeks. I also did epsom salt soaks starting after the first week which really helped the incision heal.

I wouldn’t apply any oil while it is healing. My doc said even after it heals to not apply anything just let the body do it’s thing.

Bio oil is really good. It will smoothened out the scar line . Epsom salt not necessary. So long as you do not have diabetes, the wound will heal itself in no time.

Can you buy bio oil OTC at most pharmacies or is it something I should order online? Never heard of it until visiting this forum

in reply tocy704

I never heard of bio oil before going on this forum and the circ info page either. I think it is more of a UK thing but You can buy it at cvs or Walgreens. My doc suggested against any oils and wasn’t too keen on bio oil so I haven’t used it. Just let your body do it’s thing.

Yeah it's a versatile oil for acne scar, stretch mark and surgery scar. It's not to help with healing of wound but rather for the smoothening of scar. Consult your doctor first.

Hi.

I had daily baths with epsom salts they were great.

I had big issues with excruciating pain due to erections..so i learned to sleep on the sofa with my legs over the arms..( keeping the body like this helped) plus ephedrine spray (sudafed) as it dilated the blood vessels)

Try these.
