Circumcision 3 days ago.

Hi all.

I'm.pretty new to this and desperately looking for answers. I live in the uk and I'm 28, I've had phimosis all my life and got to the point circumcision was the only answer. I was told I needed it. No doubt in a few months all will be ok.

I'm now on day 3, very swollen and not yet able to pull the skin back (its swollen up near to where the head is) the bandage fell off yesterday with urination and I've been replacing it with fresh gauze and tape twice daily and for bed to avoid discomfort.

Tomorrow is my 4th day, when can I have a bath and fully submerge my penis in the water? Can I use epsom salts this early ?

Thanks

I was instructed to take a shower after 4 days. I removed the gauze on day 3. I did not soak my Willy until the third week. Only because I wasn’t really instructed to do so. Be careful and follow your urologist orders. And, watch out for those night time erections. They are the worst. Good luck

Mate , post op orders are usually given by the doc . Please call him up and check with him as different procedures have different post op recovery options. My bandages were completely removed after Day 3 and I started bathing from that day itself . Inflammation is normal and will subside. Would suggest you to use normal salt water rather than Epsom salts as they might irritate the incision site and even salts I would suggest only after 10 days post op . This is just in my opinion . If you are dressing yourself daily , make sure you are cleaning your hands and keeping everything sterile. Also do clarify with your doc on post op orders. Cheers !

Thanks for the reply. The doc advised the bandages can come off after a couple of days but never mentioned anything about bathing or salts... I'll try a lukewarm bath tonight and start with salts at the weekend once ive healed up a bit more.

Yeah , from what I know you can definitely bath although don't use high velocity water streams . Dribble warm soapy water and normal water alternatively if your are feeling too sensitive to touch the raw area and dry yourself after . This can be done for first few days and as you heal you can soap the area better later. Also remeber to use a non irritant non chemical soap and to dry after. Cheers !

One of my worries the the hypersensitivity. Because everything is now exposed and hasn't been for 28 years the hypersensitivity is extreme. But I'm sure many guys go through this. Will the water help to desensitize the glands/reduce sensitivity?

Yeap , warm water and contact with clothes and the air will help reduce the hypersensitivity over the following days. You can also use vaseline petroleum jelly or any non chemical non fragrant moisturiser on the head after bathing. It will help you out tremendously in a week or so. But at all times maintain hygiene and sterility of hands and the operated site.

Thank you for the help! Appreciate it

After 48 hours you should be OK to shower as the wound would have closed (mostly). Taking a bath can introduce infection, e.g. bacteria from your body is present in the water although if the wound is sealed properly then should be OK after three days.

Do not use Epsom salts, it is basically bath salts and doesn't do anything for wound repair, use table salt instead (you don't actually need salt at all but if you feel compelled to do so then research it first so you understand what the benefit is). Beware if you do, it'll probably sting.

Melolin low adherent absorbant dressing pads are good for any weeping or spotting although it sounds like you already have that sorted.

Keep your unit pointing upwards as much as possible to allow gravity to relieve the build up of fluid that causes swelling.

Hi Man, probably a shower would be best that's what I was advised to do less chance of infection. and probably you would be too sensitive to submerge in a bath when you had phimosis you can use your hand to protect your glans in the shower. Using ordinary table salt would be better than Epsom salt you don't need it very strong use a small bowl to gently wash your glans. if you have problems drying yourself using a blow dryer is handy instead of a towel. when you are dressing the wound use some non adherent dressing with some gauze wrapped over that and a elastic fastener. Hopefully the swelling will subside in a few days you could try some ice I fund it helped. Hope this helps
