Hard Lumps Under Scar Line After Stitches Come Out.

Hi there! It's 2 weeks after my op and a few of my stitches have fallen out. My worry is that there are a few hard lumps under where the stitches were. Is this normal? Should I be worried at all? They feel fairly thick and hard but have no pain. Does anyone know what this is or if it's usual? I can't attach a pic as they aren't very obvious, they sit under the skin.

Difficult to judge without pictures. I’m nearly a month in, I had a lot of odd swelling, lumps, bumps. Most of it has gone away. Keep an eye on it, do you have any follow up appointments scheduled? If not, and you still have stitches/sutures that haven’t fallen out in next day or two, make an appointment for the nurse to remove the rest of them. Otherwise there is danger of more visible scarring forming. (This is unless your surgeon advised otherwise on how long they should be in for). You can use that appointment to flag any concerns and ask for advice.

Hope that helps!

You really wouldn't be able to see anything in a picture as it's under the skin... I don't have any other appointments scheduled, the last time was with him (day 9) he said that the healing was all looking good and if it stayed that way I wouldn't have to see him again. He stated that the stitches would be out within the next 2-3 weeks max. The lump is only on the left side of my penis where 3 stitches have come out. However, on the right side and one in the middle do not have any of these lumps under them. I guess I'll just keep an eye on them then!

Thanks for the advice!

Upon further inspection, it almost appears as though there is a thick lump around the entire back of the penis along the scar line, across the frenulum. It isn't visible or painful but you can easily feel it

I understand what you mean. I have read here that those hard lumps under the skin are cauterized veins and that over time they reduce their size, it is a slow process, be patient. I had surgery two months ago and I still notice the hard lumps, but I have also noticed that they reduced their size.

Thank you for this! That makes me feel a bit better! I'll just be patient and trust in the process! Did yours also appear after the stitches started coming out?

That's right, I started to notice them in the third week, when the swelling was going down. Of course they were there from day 1, but with the swelling they don't feel so much. if the lumps are small, they are surely internal stitches, if they are larger, they are likely to be veins that cauterized to stop the bleeding during the operation

Okay great, thank you! I'm hoping it will iist reduce with time! I read up that it could also be lymphangioclerosus - hoping it's nothing like that!

Also - have you had sex with those lumps and if so, has it been problematic at all?

I have not had sex since the operation, I guess I am waiting until I am in better conditions, that includes that the hard lumps reduce a little more

Ah alright, I see!

Do these hard lumps feel like a lumpy air bubble? I was circumcised as an infant and it’s always been there. It could also be musculature tissue. How do you separate the sensation of a hard lump from cauterized veins verses musculature tissue? I know that at the end of the foreskin, there exists musculature tissue. Curious to hear your thoughts?

these hard lumps have a cartilage-like texture, such as ears or nose

That's similar to the feeling of the lump felt in my penis

This is not similar to the lump in my penis.

How does yours feel? Is it hard but painless?

It has the feeling of an air bubble, but it feels like musculature tissue, which is the tissue that’s located at the end of the foreskin. It is highly sensitive, it has this finger tip sensation.

Ah I see - that is quite different to what mine feels like! I think I may have Mondor's disease (non-serious, self curing disease)

I forgot to tell you that some of those hard lumps can also be internal stitches that will eventually be absorbed

I have read that too! I'm hoping that this is the case!

I had a few little lumps under the skin around the incision line that went away around the 20 day mark. They were minor and no larger than a grain of rice.

Great, thank you! Hopefully mine will soon disappear!
