journaling? I have always found it interesting that my therapists would have me challenge the negative things I thought about myself. Some days I think I frustrated her 😂. Look, if I believe I’m stupid, no matter what someone says to contradict that belief, I still hold true the belief. I can back up why I feel this way, and it makes sense to me. There was no way anyone, not even myself could convince me otherwise. Perhaps what works best is to look at where the beliefs are coming from. Why are we so focused on them? And why do we care? If I’m stupid, so be it.

What do you think?

Not stupid. But Ive been beaten up so bad last seven yrs. The anxiety is so bad and depression so low I cant seem to get a handle on it. Do you experience this how you handle it?

I’m not sure how I handle things, I often don’t. It’s a roller coaster for me. Sometimes therapy, sometimes reading about things that may help, hope, distraction, medication, and sometimes none of these things help, or they help for awhile and then I find myself in the hole again. I’ve had depression and anxiety for my lifetime and it never really goes away, it just fluctuates.

What have you tried?

I do breathing, tapping. writing and long walks. Therapy and drugs havnt helped much and messed up my gut.

I would highly recommend trying the SelfTalk App. selftalkplus.com/ They offer a 30 day free trial so you can see if you find it helpful and see if you think it is worth the money to continue. There are a lot of different programs on different topics. It is repeating positive statements. I like Overcoming Stress, Worry, and Depression, Believing in Incredible You, and Going to Sleep as just a couple of examples. It is spending time filling your mind with the positive instead of just listening to all of the negative. I listen to it every day while I am walking on the treadmill and then before bed.

I do this, too. I'm also so afraid when I wake up that I shake all over, heart pounding fear, What helps me is to get up and keep my body moving, doing whatever needs to be done, Just holding still brings on negative, fearful thoughts, so I try to keep moving, or keep my mind occupied, like playing Scrabble online, which is great.
