I wouldn’t usually write about a 3k run, but today was a comeback day. After 12 days rest/rehab/ purgatory it was time to test things out. When I tried a calf stretch, the pain and tightness around my achilles and the back of my knee was not promising, but I persisted until things eased off. Then it was gear on and out of the door.
A 10 minute warm up walk, then those first tentative few steps. I ran slowly, as instructed, for the first 1k, picked things up in the second, then backed off for the final lap. A few stretches and it was cafe time and a celebratory chocolate brownie ( a rare treat since the doc decided I was pre diabetic (score of 42 …41 would have been clear) 🙄 I digress).
The really important thing is how I felt after running. The trials and troubles of the past few weeks dropped away as I felt that familiar rush of endorphins, and I walked home with an idiotic smile on my face. Early days of course; there may be set backs ahead, but for now, I feel like a runner again. Time for lunch! Thinking about ic friends everywhere. This day will come 🙂

Plastered across my face with the brownie crumbs! Occasional treats are ok apparently.
I have been invited to participate in a face to face group course which deals with exercise and diet. Exercise and weight are fine….only leaves food. You are right though; have to take these things seriously.
Things are now going well for you BC66, congratulations on that 3K run this morning, I wasn't at parkrun today but ran what you and I call a 3K maintenance run, after I completed it two runners who caught up with me started a conversation and I ran 1K with them in a time of 7 minutes and 21 seconds..
Thanks Dexy5. Calf stretches three times a day now until I see the lady with the magic (and steely) fingers on Wednesday. Mustn’t turn up without doing my homework!
You had a long spell out IP….at my age it just feels like a long time. Age is an issue though; my physio always says that it is vital that I get out there running again as soon as possible. I just do as I am told.😬
Thank you. I've been able to do stuff that makes me happy, involving various combinations of dog, mud, my beloved forest, the odd double figure distance, and a bit of proper vertical.
My forerunner 35 doesn’t give me rude messages about pace etc, in fact I like it, but VO2 max continues to confound me. I have restructured the heart rate bands to more closely resemble reality; we will see! It doesn’t worry me; I just like to get to the bottom of things. That algorithm has asked for it!🙂
Thanks >61. That 12 days just flew by! The inside of my calf was really tight and lumpy and it is still sore 5 days after treatment. My massage ball is doing its stuff so hopefully not a big session with physio on Wednesday. Eye watering stuff!
Glad to hear that BC! Commiserations on the pre-diabetes - I was diagnosed with type 2 nearly 6 years ago and managed to get it down to the bottom of the pre-diabetes range via c25k/running and changing diet. It has stuck there ever since but at least I have it under control!
Thanks JP, good to hear. I think that I have the activity bit covered with running, dog walks, no weight problem and swimming. Diet is harder, especially as Mrs BC was diagnosed with Type 2 with quite a high score at the same time. We have been booked on different NHS courses …hopefully we can replan the menus quickly! I hope it is quick ….I have lost 4lbs already 😂
Yes I went on a course too - it was helpful. We already ate quite a healthy diet but I do love my treats! So it was a case of reducing the quantity of those rather than cutting out altogether and also less carbs. I managed to lost 3 stone over about a year. Best of luck!
I am hopeful misswobble. I really don’t do IC very well, that is until I can identify the problem and have a recovery plan which is working. I have resisted the temptation to fit in a second run pre tomorrow’s physio session; no point in complicating things by a failure to follow orders! Too easy for a physio to extract revenge 😱
yeah best wait til you’ve had another physio session.
These injury interruptions seem to be interminable whilst in the thick of them but they’ve got to be worked through. It would test the patience of a saint I know 😇.
When you’re fixed you’ll be stronger than before 💪😀
I walk 4 to 5 miles a day with Molly, so I have kept moving. I will ask my physio about my post run regime. My warm up seems ok now, but “walk a few minutes and flop into a chair with a flat white” is probably not an ideal post intervals warm down 🙄!
