πŸ₯‡πŸ₯‡πŸ₯‡πŸ₯‡ Just two and a half weeks to go now until HU Spring 2025 on 27th April!!!πŸ₯‡πŸ₯‡πŸ₯‡πŸ₯‡

⭐ We have new HU bling for spring 2025 and the ribbon will be personalised with your distance! Is that just the motivation you need to try a new distance? Again the medal will be wooden and available to order at a very reasonable price. Link for ordering to follow very soon.

Have you signed up yet? If not, why not??? 10k, 10 mile, HM, MM AND FM options available.

Full details can be found in our pinned post here: healthunlocked.com/marathon...

⭐ Event playlist 🎡🎡🎡

Don't be shy! We need your suggestions!!! The more the merrier, the ore eclectic the better!

We will put together a new playlist (on Spotify) and it’s time to tell us what music inspires you. What keeps you going or even gets you started? What gets you up that hill? We want to know your most inspirational music, the more tracks the merrier! Let us know the artist and title and any special version information, if applicable.

We'll add your suggested tracks to the event spreadsheet (page 2) so you can see what you’ll be running or walking to on the day 🎢 Nearer the time we'll give you a link to the playlist itself.

So, please, it's time to get thinking and give us your best tunes. Get your choices added now by commenting below!

⭐ Strava club ⭐

Remember, if you're a Strava user, or fancy joining up, we have a club for this event. If you join you'll be able to see your fellow eventers and give and receive kudos for your training runs. If you would like to be part of the club, send us a 'request to join' using this link: strava.com/clubs/HUspring25

⭐ Training ⭐

We hope your training is going to plan and everything is on track. If not, what can you do to adapt? Obviously you can be flexible on pace, or even on distance (changes can be made right up until the last minute, no strict rules here!), but maybe there are other ways to embrace the way things are turning out.

Do let us know how you’re getting on. We truly love hearing how it's going - good or bad, we're ready to cheer or to commiserate and support.

Have fun, take care, enjoy your runs and happy training everyone 😍

Your Team Irishprincess, Beachcomber66 and me xxx

The wound on my knee seemed quite dry this morning, so I took it for a 6.5k recovery run. Takes more than a tree root to stop us! I gave my knee a bit of fresh air, but have dressed it again post shower just to keep the bugs out. I guess I can call this a cut back week. Park run planned for Saturday, then a long run on Monday. I think a long run free week was probably a good idea anyway. Maybe πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I think I must have missed something Beachcomber66 - did you take a tumble? Wasn’t Captain very sensible? Hope all’s ok? 🀞

I fell over a tree root on Monday morning about 1.5k into a 10 mile run! It made a bloody gravel/ash filled graze on my knee cap; so I took the walk of shame home with blood running down my leg. I cleaned it up in the shower and a really helpful pharmacist in Boots sold me some good dressings for it. It is all clean now, no weeping, so I think I will be good for a long run on Monday. Memories of the fall which I had in 2023…..but I am ok this time πŸ‘

Oh ouch. Glad it appears to be just a surface wound and you didn’t twist or sprain anything. πŸ™

The tree moved; honest….πŸ˜‚

It's so annoying when saboteurs place obstacles right where you are about to place your feet!

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66AdministratorHalf Marathonβ€’ in reply toRiceAndPeas

Certainly is; only explanation possible 🀨.

Park Run tomorrow; maybe not a PB day. We will see how my knee feels in the morning. It is a really inviting course: I keep running Park Run and 5k PBs. Has to stop sometime though. 27 April is the big day.

Isn't that the truth!!!

Oh no BC πŸ™€ Hope you are ok now. I reckon I’ll have a scar on my knee from my last fall. This running is literally blood, sweat and tears πŸ˜‚

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66AdministratorHalf Marathonβ€’ in reply toIrishprincess

I think that it is headed in the right direction thanks IP. Supposed to get up to 17c later so I will give it some fresh air. Park Run on Saturday should be a good test!πŸ™‚

Oh no, I missed this tumble too ... it's been a busy turnaround from Monsal to Canada in 48 hours! Glad it hasn't held you back too much or derailed any plans. Cut back weeks are very valuable!!!

I missed it too!

I won’t go for the bling linda9389 , but I will be setting myself an extra challenge on the 10k. My aim is to attempt a faster time than achieved on Sunday. I think I had more in me and without stopping to sort out my tech I hope I can knock a minute off that, maybe 2. Although, I won’t have the encouragement of HU buddies en route, I know you will all be out on the same day.

This week I’ll do a short run and a parkrun, but Maybe I’ll try an 11 next week, if it’s not too busy in the promenade.

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66AdministratorHalf Marathonβ€’ in reply toDexy5

That sounds like an eminently attainable target Dexy5.

Although I am not really a bling addict, I think that I will order a medal if I hit metric marathon distance; probably be my furthest run ever, so maybe worthy of a bit of cupboard space. Note to self; try not to fall over again in the build up!

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy510 Milesβ€’ in reply toBeachcomber66

Oh yes you must get a medal for a metric marathon BC. We cycled just over 23k on Monday but that is slightly (hugely) easier.

I hope your injury is getting better each day. Silly tree roots. Always waiting to catch us out.

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66AdministratorHalf Marathonβ€’ in reply toDexy5

That a good ride though Dexy5. If it is hot tomorrow I will wear shorts and give my knee another airing. It didn’t help that I was so cross that I couldn’t complete my run. It took a minute or so for the cogs to turn and accept that the run was over. πŸ€―πŸ™‚

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathonβ€’ in reply toBeachcomber66

Unlike me when I smashed my teeth and hurt my hand ... all sense was knocked out of me and, unable to reach any family for help as it was so early, I just carried on. I'm quite sure that contributed to the consequences later in the day. You did the right thing stopping!!!

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathonβ€’ in reply toBeachcomber66

A metric marathon is definitely a blingworthy achievement BC. But what's this 'if'... ???

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66AdministratorHalf Marathonβ€’ in reply tolinda9389

Just the impact of the fall; a reminder that we are always just a misstep from disaster πŸ€•

linda9389 profile image

It's always on my mind on a run BC. My biggest fear is going down and hitting my head.

I well remember your face plant Linda. and the dentistry which followed. I tend to forget my falls quickly; maybe age has its advantages!!

Great target Dexy. How wonderful to finish a race with more in the tank. There'll still be lots of encouragement from your HU buddies ... just maybe not quite so loud 😍

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy510 Milesβ€’ in reply tolinda9389

The steady pacing was what I needed to do to achieve the distance , and I was pleased with the negative splits. But next time I want to step up the pace at 8k and finish with the feeling that I’d left it all out there. We will see. πŸ˜‚

linda9389 profile image

Great news linda9389 ! It’ll be no surprise to hear that yes I definitely want (need) the bling for my MM attempt. I wouldn’t even contemplate it without the virtual badge and the real thing will add a spring to my step too.

I have no aspirations other than to complete the distance. I’ll be strength training more in the lead up as I swear that helped my hips in the Bath Half. I’ll try to fit some extra runs in too, not just PR, and also to give myself permission to Jeff if necessary. It’ll be a long time on my pins! πŸ˜…

Crikey 2.5 weeks ….. that’s quite soon isn’t it? 😳

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathonβ€’ in reply tocheekychipmunks

It wil be massively well deserved bling cheeky! Jeffing is a very credible way to complete a metric marathon - indeed to complete any distance! You're right, it's a long time on your feet but channel your 'duracell bunny' and you'll make it, of that I am sure 😊

I'm really looking forward to achieving my first ever medal! Thank you so much Linda for organising this. I've done a few longer runs of late (actually I think I've already done a 10k run, but I'm going to wait for the race to count it for real. Especially as I rather lost track of the route....

But now I'm just going to concentrate on a steady diet of 5k until race day. Am loving the spring weather - really good for motivation!

linda9389 profile image

It will be very special to get the 10k as part of the group virtual run. The weather and many signs of spring exploding around us are definitely something to appreciate and celebrate just now 🌱
