Early alarm this morning, so that I could have breakfast and still get out before it warmed up too much (I can not run on empty!) I think it was just after 6.30am when I headed off - planning for a 10k and hoping for a bit more - up to 13k depending on how I felt.
I took this run purposely slowly due to the heat but also because I haven't run further than 12k since before my niggly knee/it band troubles (now resolvedπ€).
Right from the off, this felt like a good run. I settled into an easy pace and headed off in to the local countryside - first on a farm road and then off road across a field, before joining the Downslink. At this time of day, the temperature felt good - my weather app said it was humid but with the gentle breeze and some broken cloud it was comfortable. The bridleways and paths were quiet initially, with just a few mountain bikers on the Downslink. The early hour meant I saw a couple of deer, which always feel like an honourπ - me in their world at this time of day!π¦
Some of the narrower muddier trails are now hard-baked by the sun but the leafy old railway line was as cool, shady and peaceful as ever...and I just wanted to keep on running! ππ½ββοΈAdded a little on to my planned route and ended up hitting 14K. A lovely run and a very happy runner - returned home for a slice of the banana cake I made yesterday! π
Happy running everyone - run early, seek the shade...and eat cake!π
