After running last year and really enjoying the day, I signed up early for this years event. I wrote quite a long post for last year so this one will be a lot shorter, hopefully!
The day started out cool and cloudy, ideal running conditions but soon the sun came out and it got much warmer. Note to self for next year, remember the sun block.
The bag drop was a bit chaotic, it was a change from last year and they were only allowing you in to the bag drop area by wave colour and there was quite a queue. I was in orange wave, one of the last to start, and I ended up right at the back of the start pen. This was probably a good idea as it meant I started off slow but I found myself zigzagging around slower runners so by the first kilometres marker I must have run a kilometre and a half π.
My target was to beat last years 1 hour and 2 minutes and perhaps get under an hour, but I had picked up a small niggle in one of my knees last week so I started off gently and decided to see how it went and pick up the pace later in the run.
What I like about this race is that there are crowds along the whole length, so you are never short of encouragement and I made a point of high fiving everyone I could along the way.
My official finish time was 58:34. The first kilometre was the slowest and the last was the fastest. I am so happy with that time!
My next challenge is my first half marathon at Southend in two weeks time, but first I am going to have a few days rest.

Excellent post from you Sigered, you paced yourself perfectly, going slowly at first and gradually getting a little faster and achieving that magic sub 60 minute PB time of 58.34, congratulations.
There have been quite a few reports here on Healthunlocked of people running in today's London Vitality 10,000 which was televised.
Have a few days off running before preparing for your HM in two weeks at Southend.
I watched the event on TV after I came back from a 'short 3K run', trying to find yourself with so many runners would be like looking for a needle in a haystack, there were so many shapes and sizes running along, I just hope everyone enjoyed themselves and as they say "everyone was a winner" not just Mo with his time of around 28 minutes.
Well done on your great time Sigered πand a fantastic set of splits!π It was a great event wasn't it? Rest up well now for your half marathon - enjoy the taper!
Well done Sigered. I also posted a fairly long run report of the event on Bridge to 10k. I thought the set up was a bit chaotic. I was in the grey wave but there were plenty of people in the toilet queue at the back of the pens with me later than 11am with orange and even yellow start labels. There was also the usual problem of smaller sized T shirts running out. But the water stations and finish line stayed open so thatβs better than the London Marathon achieved.
