I have been waiting for this day to come...my first 10k for a while...
Thank you to linda9389 and roseabi for organising the event, what a great idea?!! It was grey, miserable and soooo windy and the rain graced me with its presence now and again, it was busy down by the canal today...plenty of runners too but not taking part in our virtual event...maybe they were doing their own challenges...one runner had her own challenge when she came across some geese stood on the towpath, she daren’t go passed them so when I carried on passed them she followed me but she had a little dog with her that prob scared them because they must’ve flapped into the water...all I heard was a piercing scream, I thought she’d fallen in!!!! My heart skipped a few beats i can tell you!!! I turned round to make sure she was ok and she was running towards me nearly in tears saying ‘I’m so scared of geese!!!’ We stood for a minute while she composed herself again and then off we went...
Thank you also to everyone who had their two penneth in the playlist, it was really good...although I had a little cry but also a little smile when Elvis came on with ‘burning love’ as I remembered my brother who we lost to covid on 25th Feb, he was a massive Elvis fan and I could just picture him gyrating his hips to that one!! I saw a runner friend of mine too and he gave me a high five as we passed each other, that put a little spring in my step...
I’ve been a bit quiet over the last month or so on here so my apologies...life’s just been a bit sad but today has been a focus for me and did me the world of good
Well done to all who took part..my time was 1hr 18mins...a little break for goosegate and a chat to my barge owner friend included
Stay positive, test negative

Lovely race report MummyC, I'm so sorry about your brother, he'd be very proud of you for this. Well done for a great run, and also stopping to help a runner in distress XX
Thank you Curlygurly2 ...well done to you too!! I think my brother would be proud of me today and he’d think I was bonkers running in the awful weather we’ve had today...he’d have had a cuppa waiting for me when I got back that’s for sure!! I was so glad the other runner was ok but maybe the canal’s not the best place to run if you’re scared of geese?!! It’s teeming with them at the moment!!! Hope you’re resting up feeling very proud of yourself now xxx
Thank you Run46 ...it was 3 weeks from start to finish with my brother, it took hold of him immediately...when he was put into an induced coma he never recovered 🥺Today has given me something to focus on and it felt so nice to think I was running alongside so many lovely people...I blummin love this forum!!
Believe me, my temperature was rising too and sweaty mess is putting it politely!!! xxx well done to you too xxx
I could hear you CBDB ! Thank you so much...Yes, the geese looked quite threatening but I just ran straight passed , I think it was her dog that spooked them!! I’d love some chickens, not sure about the geese though...my dad had some when I was young with his new family..and he never let me near them as they were angry all the time...he named one of them after his mother-in-law!!! 🤣
Thank you SueAppleRun ..it’s been very sad indeed..and what a strange time for funerals...the whole thing makes a sad situation sadder 😔 it certainly has been a tough year for everyone but I’m sure there’s light at the end of the tunnel xx
Yes, funerals are very strange i’ve been to 2 in the last few months and missed being able to sing and let some of the tension out, not family though, i do feel for you Healing thoughts and hugs to you and your family x
Thank you cheekychipmunks , running definitely helps, even the runs that don’t feel that good, it’s all about giving yourself time to process what’s happened...xx
Well done Mummycav, sounded an eventfull run, with the geese! So sorry to hear about your brother 😥 i had a moment today, running past my mum's old care home, she past away 13 feb this year. Anyway, life goes on, and so does the running! 🏃♀️🏃♂️
Ohhh Peter44 ...my heart goes out to you...losing your mum is a pain like no other...So many people have been affected by this terrible virus...hopefully we are coming out of the other side m...hugs to you Peter...one step at a time xx
Thank you Week7 ....running is such therapy to me, I don’t know what I’d do without it!!! I was a bit shocked when Elvis came on at first but by the end of the song I was smiling 🙂
I can imagine that it was a bit of a shock, but over time the shocks will become less painful and the happy memories will be brighter.Thinking of you. Safe running!
Well done lovely Mummycav 🏃♀️🏅I'm sure your brother would be very proud of you, and pleased that it did you good. Take care and rest up especially after your vaccine.😚xxx
Well done MC! I know a few people who have a phobia about birds so they would have been the same as that poor lady 😱
I’m so sorry to read about your brother, no wonder the music brought back memories. But how lovely to imagine him dancing to Elvis, such a happy memory.
Sending you a virtual hug and a medal for the run 🏅🙂 xxx
Ahh, well done MC, that was a great run! 10 k's a long way when you haven't done one for a while, a long time for memories and reflection. Music can be such a strong emotional trigger too. Thank goodness neither of you ended up in the water!!!
Eek! Yes, some people are really scared of geese - lucky you were there to offer a little support to the other runner!😬Great that you joined us all on this MC - I know it’s been a difficult time - I bet your brother would have approved of you running to a little bit of Elvis, too.
