HU 10K - BlackScorpion

Hiya,

Went out this morning for a 12K, which is in my plan to reach 10 miles, of which the first 10K would be for the HU 10K.

Dark and cloudy weather, but luckily no rain. Started the RunGo app with the 10K virtual route on and set of.

The first few kilometers were ok, but I did not feel 'into the zone' and around 5K I was already struggling. Did have to laugh a few times with the RunGo comments though. But the run felt heavy.

This is strange for me, because normally a run in the morning feels easy and 10K is my favorite distance. Nevertheless I was struggling. At 6K I almost despaired, knowing I was only half way. But I kept going.

At 8K I had a short moment of energy, but it did not last. 10K came and went, the RunGo commentary ended. In the meanwhile my hands were starting to get stiff, though it was not THAT cold. I wonder if it has anything to do with my arthritis. My past 2 IV's were only half the doses as they need my meds for corona patients. After my run I could hardly use my hands anymore, they were very stiff. Shoelaces are a hell...

Pure on character I succeeded in getting to 12K, but it was HARD. Maybe I did not drink enough yesterday, I also lacked sleep this night due to cats who did not want to sleep anymore. Whatever the reason I do hope my planned 14K next weekend will go a bit easier.

For the HU 10K, I clocked my 10K at 1:23:57. And I saw 2 gorgeous pheasants in our little park (see unclear pic). Next to Canadian geese, Nile geese and ducks, it appears we now have 2 male pheasants too.

Cheers, Evy

Hi Evy. Sounds like a challenging run. Sometimes they are just harder than others, aren’t they? I do sympathise about cats ruining the night. I was “treated” to a visit by mine in a very friendly mood at about 4 a.m.

in reply toStephen_UK

I do blame the lack of hydration and the lack of sleep.

As for the kitties, my 16 year old likes to get up around 4 or 5 am for food. Due to stomach issues she can't have food available 24/7 and can only have small portions. And she won't go back to sleep and then asks every half hour for food. I can't be angry at her for it, she has not chosen for this health issue and I can only hope she'll keep at it for some more years...

Well done Hidden , that's a great achievement. Nice photo of those pheasants too - I was dodging hunters this morning, your birds and Stephen's deer wouldn't have stood a chance!

in reply toCmoi

I actually felt happy they were searching for insects there. No hunting in our little park! I hope they stay around the area longer and avoid getting shot.

Fantastic Blackscorpion!! Well done.. that sounded tough!!! My hands were so numb my first 6K I couldn't move them..had to stop and give them a massage.. should have worn my gloves!! 😫

But again congratulations 👏💥

in reply tosparky66

The weird thing was that I did not feel cold. I fear wearing gloves already will overheat my hands. But I also have somewhere very thin arthtritis gloves. Maybe I can try them!

I did wear gloves to start with this morning, but had to remove them about 90 minutes in as my hands were too hot. The air was still here, which makes a lot of difference.

in reply tonowster

That is what I am afraid for too, getting too hot. Ofcourse I now have my hydration vest with many pockets, so I can always ditch them in a pocket.

What a great run, huge well done to you!! Hope your hands feel better now? xxx

Thanks and no worries, a hot bath solved everything 😉

Well done Evy! Even though bits of it were a challenge you kept on going which is amazing 🤩. Congratulations on doing the HU 10k and then some. We have someone who lives near by who lets their pugs out in the middle of the night and they’re always barking. I thought I could hear an owl last night too until I realised it was my nose making a weird noise 🤣. Hurrah on your great run! 👍👍👍🎉🎉🎉

in reply toFrenc

Thanks! Your nose sounds like an owl? 🤔😂

Well done on your challenging run today . Even with all your ups and downs good time. Hope you’ve thawed out . I needed gloves this morning as well, even then fingers stinging. Great run👏👏👏⭐️

in reply toDoris8

Thanks, the weird thing is I did not feel cold. I am going to look up my thin arthritis gloves though, maybe they can help.

HU 10k complete. Well done🏅

in reply toFrizzbomb67

Thanks and yeah not all runs are walks in the park eh? 😉

Wow, well done on getting to the 12k when it felt so tough. It's always good to consider hydration and fuelling and sleep after a bad run - it's how we manage to make tweaks to let us make the most of our potential. But some runs are just harder than others. Especially when we are increasing distance - the gremlins have an easy job of exploiting our lack of confidence! But you beat them all. That's 12 k ticked off. I bet the next run will be much easier.

in reply tolinda9389

Thanks and indeed, hydration eg. is very important. At the start of C25K I kinda ignored it, thinking it stupid advice. But in the meanwhile over the past year I have felt it in my legs whenever my hydration on the day before the run was weak. So in the meanwhile I do know and realize it is important. It is just more difficult on some days to get enough water in me than on other days. In the weekend for example I often forget to drink enough.

Despite the challenges you got it done so that's greatI can empathize about hands stiffening up, I've got arthritis and Raynauds in my fingers and I have problems with shoes laces and waist ties on leggings really annoying when you are desperate for the loo.

in reply todijep

Normally I don't have many issues with my hands since I am on the IV's. But I guess the combo of a half dose and the cold is too much to handle. Sorry to hear you have such problems with your hands. I guess the current weather is not helping you either eh?

What a run and oh those cold hands, I didn’t realist mine were even cold until after and got in the car to drive, i had the heat blowers on blowing warm air on them. Hard runs are to be super proud of because you kept going

Thanks ☺

Woohoo! Nice 10k!!! Awesome! (My run was an easy 5k today)

in reply toCBDB

I read about your 5K, have not reacted yet. Too bad about the metata... something. Hopefully it will solve soon!

Congratulations on completing a difficult run. I hope next week will be easier for you. I pull my sleeves down over my hands if they are cold at the start of a run. Goid luck with your 14k 👍
