Sorry I couldn’t join you all on Sunday but after running 5k on grass on Saturday, I was in no condition to run a 10k on Sunday. I take my hat off to cheekychipmunks , TailChaser and Katnap who did exactly that in real races. But then again, they are much younger .
So after a 3k on Monday, today I was heading out on my 10k. I didn’t use the playlist as I don’t pay for a Spotify account and I didn’t want the ads cutting in. And as I have over a thousand tunes downloaded to iTunes I just put it on shuffle so that I wouldn’t know what was coming up next. I also started NRC 90 minute run with the lovely Coach Bennett. I wasn’t intending to run race pace so that suited me fine.
The blue skies and warm temperatures have finally arrived, and there was a very light breeze to bring a bit of relief. Sunglasses and a sports sunscreen were on. UpTheStanley was running 10k too but we ran separately today to run at our own pace. I headed east along the prom to the Hayling Island Ferry. UTS was returning before I got there so we high fived as we passed. I turned round at the ferry jetty and there were clear views of Langstone Harbour and Hayling Island, the sunshine glinting off car windows and the pub on the other side of the water. It was now about 18C and I was mopping my face with the buff on my wrist as I ran along. But it was nice and cool when I ran in the shade of conifers alongside the caravan park so when I got the end of them I turned around a few times to take full advantage of it for a bit longer. Then it was back on the prom again and running that familiar route towards the pier. UTS had finished his 10k well before me and he joined me when I’d got to about 7.5k. But I sent him on his way as I felt it was affecting my natural pace. I walked a bit while I drank water and retrieved a fruit gum from my belt. Then on I ran, and finally finished up by running around canoe lake and under the trees by the tennis courts. By which time, UTS had bought his paper and was waiting for me in a local cafe where we had cappuccino, a big jug of water and shared a bacon ciabatta under a parasol in the garden.
Phew I did it, but it was a reminder that we will need to get out earlier again now that summer is on its way. I always go on a bit further than the distance just to make sure Strava shows the full 10k; my actual 10k time was 77:57 today.
Loving reading everyone’s posts this week.
Whoops, forgot to say, this week is 5 years since I graduated c25k! I think TailChaser was the only one to respond to my graduation post that is still here, But there are many of you who followed in the class of 2018. Haven’t we had a ball as a result of running!

Congratulations to you and UTS on running the Spring Healthunlocked 10K, I bet you enjoyed your meal after the run, I also ran it staring at 07:50, that was my 36th 10K altogether since I began C25K just over 5 years ago.
Thank you Al, 0750 would have been more sensible- it was 0959 when we started today. I graduated on 15 May 2018, which is not far from when you started.
What a super run Dexy, it was hot this morning, oh a buff round wrist, good idea, I just drip in the sun, that suncream was needed too, enjoy a relax for the rest of the day
Ladies apparently glow, but I'm sure us runners sweat.I have towelling wristbands but haven't used them yet, I like the buff idea and went through ours recently and washed them so I have a good stock, an odd benefit of suddenly having double of everything
Happy runniversary Dexy5 ! I think that you qualify as Head Graduate with your organisational skills.
I might be one of the more junior and ill disciplined members (other than in terms of age); my first C25k run was on 25 May 2018 and I “graduated” sometime in August. I must look it up …..calf problem delayed my graduation….story of my running life!
I must dream up a special run for the 25th ….maybe that 25k (definitely joking!!)
Well done on the 10k Dexy, and happy runniversary too! That means my 5th year of starting C25K is coming up (mid June) with my graduation in August like Beachcomber66 . Isn’t it wonderful how we’re still keen as ever? 🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♀️
Yes, earlier starts are in order now. Not that we’re allowed to complain about warmth after the winter and spring we just endured
Did you say you did a separate runniversary post too? I can’t see it. You know I always reply! 😅
There was no separate runniversary post cheekychipmunks , I just amended this one after I forgot to mention it. The motley crew will celebrate my 5 years of parkrun on Saturday by going for a nice breakfast. Just for a change. 😂
Ahh, glad I didn’t miss it Dexy. 🙏🏻 A standard Saturday coming up for you then, but with an extra excuse! We’ll be celebrating Jenny’s 50th this weekend as you know, most likely st Severn Bridge. 😀
Congratulations on your 5th runniversary Dexy and well done on your 10k! It was warmer than I expected today - I was down on the beach this morning sitting in the sun with one of the granddaughters, so our paths nearly crossed (again!), and had to lose the jumper. Here's to the next 5 years and some!
I find it completely bizarre to think that it is possible to keep running for over an hour without really thinking about it don't you? I'm not saying it's easy but just the fact that our bodies can do these things that , for me at least, always seemed like something only Megasporty people could do!So amazing what a bit of hard work and commitment ( and luck) combined with the inspiration and support of these chats can do.
Huge respect to you for getting past the 5 year mark and here's to many more happy runs 🥂.
Five years is amazing isn't it Dexy? Who knew when we all set out that we'd still be here so long after 😊. Happy runniversary, and a great run to mark it 👏👏👏
Indeed. I didn’t even find the forum until week 7 of c25k, but there’s no doubt that the things I have achieved since that graduation is down to the support and knowledge I found on ‘the bridge’ and at parkrun .
Well done Dexy, great run & a very well earned brunch 👏 🎉
I've just got to 5 years too...started running at 46 (well, a couple of months before but didn't come here & do it properly until then) and I've just hit 51. There must have been something in the air in 2018! And yes...the fun we've had due to running & the support of this brilliant forum 😊
awww what a great run report, really enjoyed reading that and really envy where you run it looks lovely. I've just hit my 3rd anniversary from C25K and finding this fantastic forum can't believe its 3 years already since I did that, thinking I'd never run 30 mins and here I am, 6 weeks ago having ran my firt HM!! The power of running!!😀🙌
Wow Dexy, that’s some detective work! Am I really?!! Congratulations on your runniversary, it really has been a blast hasn’t it? Here’s to many more! 🥳🥳🥳
Hello Dexy, Congratulations on your 5 years and your 10km! 🎉🏃♀️😊🏁 My apologies for my late reply, there always seems to be too much going on.
I noted your, 'I wasn’t intending to run race pace.' Any idea of effort over 4 or 5 seems not allowed for the injury prone person I have become. Boo! Currently my right hamstring and last Thursday my right buttock as well giving pain. 😔 Oh dear! But I live in hope...
