I couldn’t fit my 10k in on Sunday, so, as I go out with my running club on Monday and Thursday evenings (although not as far as 10k), I decided the best time to do it would be Wednesday morning. Well, the rain was torrential and, as some of you know, I really hate running in the rain, so I decided to defer to today. Had a terrible night sleep and my enthusiasm deserted me, but then just after lunch I felt I’d be letting myself down and all you good people who have already completed it if I wimped out, got changed and out of the door before I changed my mind.
I am also doing Walk 31 Miles in May or, in my case, Walk 31 Days in May (with a minimum of a mile as I am already at 75 miles) to raise money for Dementia UK in memory of my lovely mum.
I chose one of my usual training routes which is mainly along quiet country roads, ran 8.4k then walked the final mile (1.6k) to make it to 10k. My time was 1.17.07, which quite surprised me, because it was almost 2 minutes faster than my Monsal Trail 10k time last month. Another bit of post injury progress and challenge complete 😃

Well done to you Sandie1961 on completing the HU 10K in a time of 1:17:07, all the sevens look good, I notice many completed that run in around 16/17 minutes, also, many of my 10Ks have been around that time as well although the Healthunlocked 10K was a little faster.
What was I saying about strong women? Thanks for making the effort when clearly you weren’t exactly desperate to get out there! I hope your injury (piriformis I think?) has packed its bag and is on its way……and you can pick up some bling . Great job Sandie 🌟
Thanks BC 😊 I still get the odd twinge and a touch of neuropathy occasionally, but, on the whole, it has thankfully slung its hook. Still doing the yoga and exercises 🤞🏻
I have decided that my exercises and stretches have to be part of life now. I can’t run hills, long distances and intervals and expect to avoid injuries without doing the between run bit correctly. We are at a country dancing night last night; and things feel a bit tight this morning…so exercises before I run this morning. A friend of mine, 10 years or so younger than me, got used to just rocking up at Park Runs very occasionally and knocking out sub 27 minute 5ks. He wasn’t even running regularly during the week. Just like a kid really. It caught up with him a few weeks back..pain in both legs..physio etc, and she told him….” You just can’t do that anymore, you need to train now ” and gave him the exercise regime he needed.
Thanks IP. The Dementia UK walk is so important (over £500 raised 😃) and I did think about adding it onto the end of a 10k run, but, in the end, that felt a push too far.
I’m off to join a friend at Belvoir Castle parkrun in the morning (trail and hills apparently) so I knew today was my last opportunity. Good luck to you tomorrow!
well done Sandie1961 ! It’s that 77 minute special again. You are getting fitter with every run and as your endurance builds up, those faster times will return. Another HU10k done. 🥳🏃♀️➡️
