Just had to share this amazing runner. I laughed at the bit where he says marathons are just too short... just speed tests! 🤣🤣🤣

That's a great profile on Yiannis Kouros. I've come across his name in some other books on ultra runners but didn't know much about him. What a driven athlete - very inspiring.

Had a little skim read... I’ll read it better over breakfast. 635 miles? Ok... maybe... but what I don’t fancy is the 580 miles the week before to stick to the 10% rule 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah... In a week... in pretty small bits... furthest run and walk we’re both 10k. This guy is something else... I don’t think I possess that kind of crazy... you gotta have a good dash of crazy to even think about doing that stuff.

My 100k was a lot of fun, and I broke it up into small chunks. I ran 5k and walked 5k after. Then lunch and out again for a walk, no single session was more than 10k, when I ran 10k that was time for a break. I needed to prove to myself that my plans for next year are doable even with an injury taking me out for a few weeks... think I’m nearly there.

Wow, you are impressive too! Funnily enough Saturday I was wondering about having several sessions in a day so say running 5km morning, pm and late evening. I am not yet supposed to run consecutive days but what if it’s on the same day but shorter distances that your max (mine is 10km)... anyway was pondering that.

Also I can sort of understand the guy. 5 months ago I did 1 minute, after a bit I wanted to do 30’ then 5km then I thought oh I’ll try 10km now I’m thinking oh maybe I should work up to a HM, I can see that progressing... although of course I may just enjoy staying at 10. I think it’s you that mentioned it’s your preferred distance and I can see that it might be mine, bit meatier than a 5km but notnover long...

Basically, if you can run 10k you can do 5k and another 5k... and you could extend one, or both, as long as you stayed in the 10% weekly mileage guidelines. I’m not sure what’s better... I read about a marathon runner who split his 20 mile long runs into two 10s and said it got him even more used to running tired... I don’t think I’d like to split my 10k, I was tempted for global running day, but decided to go do the 10 that I love so much.

I prefer 10 to 5... but I don’t know about 21 and 42 yet 🤣. I think it’s all down to the toxic 10 though... on a 5k it’s a more significant proportion of the run... and on a 10k it’s a more distant memory. This week at parkrun though I jogged out the toxic 10 and then really loved that 5k. I don’t really know what I’ll prefer long term, and I only ever planned to do one marathon, but I do know after it I will have to maintain a good base to do another if I feel the need.

I get a toxic 2-5 then a glitch at 30 and then one at 60, the 10 doesn’t seem to bother me.

I want to do a marathon once and next year I would like to do a HM. For now I’m on IC dreaming:-)
