laser treatment
Hi Weepie
I have had SLT (Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty) laser twice for high eye pressures. The first time was in August 2019 and it brought my eye pressures down from mid-30s to low 20s. After about a year, they had increased again so I had the procedure a second time in September 2020. This time, it din't appear to bring my eye pressures down iniitially but they are now reducing.
Before the laser, I was using Latanoprost drop but I don't like the idea of using drops for the rest of my life so was keen to have the laser.
The laser itself is a painless procedure. The only bit which is rather disconcerting is that they use a jelly-like lens which feels cold and squidgy. I wasn't prepared for this the first time and it shocked me a bit but the second time I was expecting it so it wasn't a problem.
After the first time, I had no after effects. After the second time I had a bit of eye discomfort for a couple of days but nothing serious and it didn't need painkillers etc.
You have to sit still during the procedure and you just hear the clicking of the machine. I would say it's a really easy procedure and completely painless.
I don't know whether this is relevant to you but I do find that my eye pressures go up and down in line with my general health. I'm now focusing on optimising my general health to try to keep my pressures low without intervention (I also have other eye conditions so am hoping it will help there too).
Good luck with your procedure. I've included a link below to the information Moorfields Eye Hospital provides on the procedure:
