Does anyone have recurrent problems with dry nostrils?!

This seems very insignificant when compared with the pain, exhaustion and other problems Lupus can cause but just wondering if this is Lupus related and if anyone can recommend anything to ease the discomfort?

if u have Sjogrens or MCT then yes. Sjogrens basically causes u're body 2 produce not enough lubricant so eyes, mouth, throat etc can all become very dry. The only thing I can suggest is keeping u'reself hydrated & using a saline nasal spray.

Thank you for replying. I was diagnosed with Lupus in January but Sjogrens was mentioned too. Will ask chemist about nasal spray. Seeing Rheumatologst in May so will see what he says. X

Hi Daisy

I was using Vaseline and my doctor told me to never do that again . She said it can cause you nose to swell inside and cause major damage . I would ask you doctor . Hope this helps

Oh I am so glad you asked this question Tinksie, I have been like that for months and even though I have had SLE for over 30 years this problem only started last year. Thank you everyone for the tips. I will mention it to my Rheumy next week.

Thanks Hazel. I was a bit hesitant about asking as it seems such a relatively minor thing but sometimes the smaller things just seem like the last straw! Thanks for the Vaseline suggestion Daisy. It is helping a little.

Me too! Had this on and off for a year or two now - dry and blood, often feeling a bit blocked up. Will try the vaseline. Looked in the chemist for a spray but could only find decongestant sprays which is not what I think I need. Will ask the local chemist about a saline spray. Small thing really but it is surprising how irritating and uncomfortable it can be. Comes and goes a bit - I wonder if it is connected with the level of inflamation in my body but who knows!

Vaseline is the answer. I also find central heating seems to make it worse.

Been diagnosed with SLE and Sjogrens Tinksie.

My nostrils get very dry and bleed sometimes. I bought Vaseline initially and its good but my daughter recommended Diprobase which is even better. You can buy it in the UK, its similar to Vaseline but more effective. As soon as my nose is uncomfortable I use it, highly recommend it.....

As for the saline spray....the consultant prescribed it a few years ago and I used it but found it burned my skin so I stopped. He also prescribed Naseptin, a cream that has nut oil in it, its not bad but again I recommend Diprobase :) Hope that helps

Hi Tinksie, I too have a problem (SLE, Sjogren's etc...) with dryness. Aloe Vera gel helps me. I put little dollops "up me' dose" - plus everywhere else dry. I get red swollen 'ridges' or cracks and ulcers (..nose, mouth, ears, vagina) as well. These are not major lupus problems as such - but oh how irritating and can be quite debilitating when 24/7. Dryness inside (digestive system) I treat with Aloe Vera Juice - as well as making sure I drink plenty of water (filtered) every day. When living with lupus, there is always something wrong somewhere! Hope you find a remedy to help you. Good luck! xxx :)

I've had this for years and now have a hole in my septum! I went to see an ENT specialist who thought I was a cocaine user! I use a nasal spray to keep my nose moisturised and when it gets infected (which is frequently) I use Bactroban or naseptin cream which seem to help!

I have very dry nasal passages. I have been now using a humidifier@ night, also I use Ayr nasal spray and the gel

3-4 x's a day. I drink a solid 7-9 glasses of water a day.

I developed thrush recently after going on prednisone. It is more difficult to stay moist
