When my health finally let go IBS was very much a part of the picture. Though the name was new and it inevitably attracted scorn and hysteria in equal amounts. ~ I found that live yoghurt was the answer, that and Lacto-fermented veg.

I have suffered with my tendons and joints for most of my life, my cholesterol is off the scale, I fully believe that one day we will see a bigger picture of how these conditions are related. But for now we have to deal with a lot of problems in isolation.

A rather charming old doctor once told me that it had been know for many many years that every single sufferer of early onset rheumatoid aslo had raised cholesterol, though the common factor had not been identified.

Thanks for your help. Ive been thinking about cutting out some things. It seems worse if I have dairy products and chocolate. I love a bar of chocolate too! Lupus is bad enough without making me stop chocolate.xx

Hi ya,

i have had IBS since I was a child. I find dairy makes it much worse, so does acidic, spicy and fatty food. Too much wheat flares it up too. Sometimes though when the lupus is really bad all you want is a slice of toast ! And obviously being a chocoholic doesn't help either. And then the steroids play havoc with my stomach too. Its just a viscious circle.

I now have soya milk yoghurts, and icecream - which are surprisingly nice, also reduce the amount of wheat. Totally avoid spicy and fatty food.

From what I have read though an awful lot of people seem to suffer from IBS along with Lupus.

Its just about getting the right balance and treating yourself on a good day!!!

Only just been diagnosed, and have suffered I believe for quite a few years with Lupas. think the doc got fed up with me going backwards and forwards with so many different ailments,I now know why . I B S was one of my symptoms, and the last two years have been stuffing chocolate into me for comfort , was this my body wanting help?

Hello again

Quite correct Tiredmum ~Balance and management is everything.

On the subject of Chocolate, I spoke to my Cholesterol specialist at Guys about it and he is all in favour of a few squares of good quality dark chocolate a day. But declined to set up a clinical trial.

Dr. Hunt at St Thomas' was also in favour of the stuff, when I gave her some montizuma dark chocolate buttons.

Hi Linda. I've had ibs for years but only diagnosed recently with sle but they think it may have been there for a long time do the two could be related. It's worse at minute but I am in the middle of a flare just now plus the steroids and immunosuppressants won't be helping. I just avoid dairy and if really bad bread, pasta and rice. Alcohol also seems to make it worse but I do have dark chocolate. Refuse to deny myself everything!

Take care. Sharon x

Hi Linda

I don't have a diagnosis but I certainly have the symptoms. I've read on here lots of similar questions and they always get a lot of replies. So your specialist should have a think about his answer lolx
