Light sensitivity

Does anyone who suffers with this wear glasses, and if they do, do they find that a tint helps? I find bright light hurts and if it is really sunny, as it was today, I get a blocked nose and watery eye on one side. The side that is nearest the window when I sit.

I wear Oakley M-Frame with a "sweep" lense in "Persimmon" (a light orange tint). I've worn them for the last five years and wouldn't recommend anything else.

For the slightly brighter days I use a "slate" lens and for the really bright days I have a much darker polarised lens.

Oakley lenses all have 100% UVA/B/C and blue light to 400nm.

They are pricey but, in my humble opinion, well worth the cost. Once you have the frames you can buy the lenses separately and change them easily yourself.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for you advice, have looked at Oakley and think they may be too expensive. I have varifocals and that bumps up cost. But it has given me food for thought re design and colour.

I don't have to wear glasses full time but do so only because of my light sensitivity. Before I started doing this one year I was struggling to see at all.

All my glasses have photo-reactive lenses and I always drive in sunglasses when there is even a glint of light. It may seem strange to some to see some of the light conditions I drive in sunglasses in but if I don't even the light reflecting off of fog can be enough to knock my vision out.

Thats the kind of thing I was thinking about, photo-reactive lenses and wondered if they helped. Am seeing optician tomorrow so will discuss it. Thanks

My optician suggested a tinted lens for my glasses which I have and it helps. I've tried the grey and the brown, both do the same job for me but then its all part of an NHS prescription so neither are high class quality. I was also told to wear thick rims which isnt fashionable any more, but they help block the sunlight...I didnt get them and the sun gets over the top of my glasses. I bought a sun hat year before last and thats proved to be the best affordable option for me, large brim that keeps the sun out very well....

I also find that with some prescription sunglasses I have that the sun gets in around the edges, and those flashes can be worse sometimes. I am going to investigate larger frames but don't want to end up with Deidre Barlow glasses....thanks for you help

You can get wraparound sunglasses. You can wear them over your own specs (without looking too much like a welder!) Marketed in OZ as anti-cancer. Also shield sides and over eyes. I have a rather smart pair. Can't remember the make offhand. I did buy them in OZ but I know there are similar products available here in the UK.

I have 2 pairs of glasses from the buy one get one free range and have one with a dark tint for the summer and really bright lights and one pair with a light tine for the winter. I always have to wear sunglasses when I'm out and particularly when I'm driving even in the winter and I find that a polaroid pair helps you see better when it's raining too believe it or not but you aren't allowed to wear really dark sunglasses when driving, I forget what number tint you are allowed too but your optician would be able to advise you on that. I also find that using eye drops a lot when it's bright because squinting to see through the bright light doesn't allow you to blink or close your eyes properly so the dry out very quickly too and that believe it or not can make your nose run too! Hope you find an answer for your problem xx
