I get the itchy arms and head, and sometimes the belly, mine don;t seem to get worse at night, and as yet have not tried antihistamine, I also get small raised bumps, I wasn;t sure if this lupus related, but guess it could be, when I next see consultant will mention it and see what they say, trouble is fingernails grow skin itches, scrtch itch and rip skin to bits, so coming to conclusion dont let fingernails grow. This Lupus sure has a lot to answer to, and its our own bodies that have turned against us, but keep weel as much as you can fellow lupies !

Hi, I am still basically undiagnosed. I have been going to an allergy doctor for years for this, but now I believe it is the lupus. I use atarax for the itching, and clobetasol ointment, its a steroid for the rash. I seem to get this rash mainly after exposure to sunlight or indoor tanning. Of course, if I don't take my allegra it does get more intense the itching after a day or two.

My itching is mainly in the am too. Takes about an hour or two, I have chlorphemamyl antihistamine and have to lie down and scratch ferociously, feel nauseous ......oh it's really horrid. Gp has reluctantly suggested I could try stopping the hydroxy to see if it stops......what do I do? Itch or get flare up? Wish GP was more supportive. Anyone out there who has had a satisfactory explanation why this occurs?

The atarax works better for that deep down to the bone kind of itch than any other pill I've heard of, and it works within 15 minutes!! It is by prescription.

I stopped my hydroxy 4days ago and the itching attacks have changed in that now it is mainly on upper body; back ,left arm(!), head. Evidently hydroxy has a very short 'half-life' ie. should be out of our system in about 3 days.

What do I do now?? Still not sure it's the drug. Ah well , back to the GP I suppose.....why does that feel like a battle? Just want Doc to say that they understand how bad this makes me feel and will try and find the cause of it.
