Morning everyone, I'm a 70 year old lady with sle, Sjogrens, blepharitis. Recently diagnosed with Episcleritis in both eyes. My Ophthalmology consultant prescribed me Maxidex eye drops for 4 wks, starting with 4drops per day for a wk, dropping down to 3 drop's, 2 drop's, 1 drop per wk. These drop's have helped immensely. My question is does anyone else have experience of this condition and can you tell me have you had repeated episodes of this condition, how do you manage it? At the moment I'm on hydroxylchloroquine and have a kenalog steroid injection every 5mths. My rheumatologist want's me to start on an immune suppressant but I'm not keen as I've try them b4 and don't tolerate the side effects very well. Apart from this blip I've been managing my conditions really well. That you in advance for any replies.

Episcleritis
Morning smudge. Yes I've had it in the past and was prescribed prednisalone eye drops by the hospital. No episodes since 2019.Which Immunosuppressants have you tried?
I take mmf and tacrolimus. Side effects can be tough I've had them with all the drugs I've tried but in most cases ive managed to ride them out. I've been on tacrolimus for 7 weeks now and most side effects have eased except for itchy skin which is taking 20mgs of certirizine to get some relief from. Kind regards SML x
Hi Spanielmadlady, Thanx for your reassuring reply. I see my eye consultation again this Fri. When I first saw him, although he was very efficient in diagnosis etc, he told me nothing of the condition apart from the name and probably to do with my lupus and to go read about it. I fully intend to be asking questions on Friday. I've previously tried mmf suppressor but had the most horrendous muscle twitching in my legs while trying to sleep. I'm light sensitive and uv intolerant and mmf increased my sensitivity to light where it hurt my eyes in any bright light. Plus it suppressed my appetite greatly. Thanx again for your reply.
I had several spells over about 4 months in 2019. I'm not sure you can blame that all on mmf because both Lupus and hcq cause photosensitivity . I'm also on hcq and can't say I've noticed any increase in sensitivity in the 5 yrs I've been on mmf. I wear wrap around sunglasses even indoors if necessary.
Have you had your b12 levels checked because that can cause restless legs at night x
B12 level's are ok. Restless legs stopped as soon as I stopped the mmf and I'm sure I read that muscle jerk's are a side effect of mmf. I wear wrap around glasses also and reactive lense glasses. Did you have to see onthologist each time your eyes had a flare or did your gp prescribe the steroid drops for you?
