I was diagnosed just over 2 years ago with Lupus and been going along quite nicely. However over the last 2-3 weeks trying to work out why I have been really quite poorly. will be in touch again when I feel a bit better.(have done the usual contacted medics)After a visit to assessment unit arranged by my GP I was diagnosed with a water infection given an antibiotic and sent home. Eventually I am starting to feel a bit better but I am now beginning to wonder if this was linked to a flare up of Lupus but am now realising everone is very different but since I was diagnosed I have not felt likethis and since I never felt ill before diagnosing (tests and butterfly rash)it is not going to be easy foe me to know if I am having a flare up or otherwise.
not knowing quite whats been going on: I was... - LUPUS UK
not knowing quite whats been going on
Hi. Not sure how to reply as you are not relating what your symptoms are or were. I can not comment on a water infection; not familiar with it. If you feel ok now then perhaps that was it. A flare is different for most but generally very tired, rashes, joint pain prevail. Best to you MM
Hi. I've recently had a uti that put me very quickly into urinary retention. I felt pretty lousy too. All you can do is wait and see ...you will in time see your pattern and be able to work out what are flares and what are infections etc. In the mean time be kind to yourself and rest . SML x
😂🤦♀️🤦♀️So that’s what a water infection is. Sorry my yank language skills need to catch up!x
Thanks for your reply. As I didnt seeem to have any signs of a uti, however tests showed some kind of infection. It was the joint pain in my hip and the tiredness made me wonder if it was a flare. I intend to be kind to myself for the next few days.
I didn't either I was fine in the morning by afternoon I couldn't pee...ended up calling 111 after I couldnt use pharmacist service for uti due to immunosuppression. When my lungs flare it follows a pattern....how quickly that pattern evolves usually dictates whether I can ride it out or need to contact medics for a meds increase. That's come with 10 yrs of practice.Time to curl up on the sofa lol big hug 🫂 xx
I did not seem as poorly as you but I know what you mean as my problems seemed to happen over night, went to bed on Wednesday and Thursday has geat difficulty getting out of bed and as I had pain in my hip just thought I had pulled something as I was getting up. Much better at the moment as I hope you are again thanks for taking the time to reply. Good health and take care xx
Urine infections can make you feel unwell. I'm sure once your antibiotics kick in it will clear up and you'll feel much better.
I have SLE, have had urine infections but I don't think they're linked. Your GP is the best one to tell you.
Glad to help Minnie, take care xxx
Hi Minnie, it’s hard to know for sure, isn’t it? Lupus can cause horrible flares that appear out of nowhere, but we can also get sick with all the usual bugs, infections and other ‘normal’ health problems!
Usually, for me, a flare means worsening pain and fatigue, feeling like I’m coming down with a flu, struggling to get through the day. But a full-blown flare can land me in hospital very quickly (eg. heart symptoms worsening in the space of an hour). It takes a while to learn the pattern of your flares; even then, random things can happen which seem impossible to pin down.
Even when I have had supposedly un-lupus-related things happen, health professionals have told me that the constant level of inflammation in my body might predispose me toward these other types of problems. So it’s possible that even when lupus isn’t the culprit, it might still be a contributing factor.
Take care of yourself, and I hope you continue to feel better after your recent ‘flare’!
Thank you MusicalFurbaby for yourcomments and yes I am beginning to feel better. However this was the first time anything had happened to me since I was diagnosed and to be honest I did not appear to have any symptoms before I was. I will now be taking more notice of the slightest changes in my health. Once again thank you for your kind comments and all my best wishes to you.
