Transverse Myelitis

Does anyone else have experience of transverse myelitis? In February this year I woke up one morning and could not use my legs. This was quickly followed over 24 hours of a complete shutdown of my body :use of limbs, speech and eventually breathing which meant induced coma for 4 days. At end of coma I was completely paralysed. Was given complete plasma exchange and spent two weeks in in tensive care and 4 further weeks in hospital This was followed by rehabilitation home after 6 months when I was finally able to come home with lots of adaptations. Have bad neuropathy down left side which hurts skin at the slightest touch. My right side still weak and right foot feels like iron bar in it. Upper body strength still very weak. Used to walk reasonably well with a stick but now need rollator with seat on. Steroids have made me gain shed loads of weight and my face doesn't look like me. But......for any of you who may be just going through this I didn't think I had any hope of being normal again. I thought I would be paralysed for the rest of my life. But slowly day by day i am getting there. Today i walked to my corner shop and i only sat down a couple of times. Chuffed with myself!!! I just want to send love and healing hugs to all of you who are struggling. Never give up. Things can sometimes get better.

Well Done for not giving up! I do hope things continue to go well for you and next time you go to the corner shop you can do it without sitting at all!!😊

Thank you so much for your lovely reply. I have felt like giving up lots of times but then I think about how far us loopies come . Next time I'm off to the shop I will think of your kind words and my bottom will stay firmly off the seat!!!

God Bless you. Yes I’ve heard of this. You’ve dealt with this like sparkling water. I hope you are not alone. But even if you aren’t I think the huff and puff to your shop deserves a double shot chocolate coffee. xxMm
