I’ve had SLE since 2014, and I had a miscarriage in my first trimester in Jan 24. Since, I’ve been referred for IVF and in parallel I am trying to get a referral to a Lupus In Pregnancy clinic so both the fertility and lupus clinic that specialises in pregnancy can help build a plan for me.
Has anyone been through lupus pregnancy with IVF? Or even miscarriages?
I wanted to know about what to expect, ask, be proactive about.
I’ve heard as soon as I got pregnant I should have been given baby aspirin and clexane injections to thin the blood so it can reach the placenta to prevent miscarriages but I wasn’t given this.
Any info will help x

hi heal, sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I’ve had two pregnancies with SLE and thankfully have two beautiful children. I haven’t been down the IVF route but was in a specialist lupus pregnancy clinic with both from inception really.
Things to note from mine:
I have anti rho anti la antibodies which can cross placenta to cause congenital heart abnormalities which are fortunately rare and didn’t happen to me. This means extra checks to listen to babies heart weekly between approx 16/18 weeks to 28 weeks.
I also have APS (sticky blood) with anti cardiolipid and anti coagulation antibodies high are associated with miscarriage and other adverse outcomes. This meant I needed aspirin (which I take daily anyway but this was doubled) as well as tinzaparin blood thinning injections daily.
I was kept a very close eye on, plenty of scans. I unfortunately developed gestational diabetes but it was manageable. Towards the end I also developed obstetric choloestasis and pre eclampsia. Again they were tough but manageable and worth it. I’m happy to chat about anything and good luck with your journey! Xx
