Hi everyone, I've hust been told by my pharmacist at Boots that Zentiva brand of Hydroxy has been discontinued. Can anyone tell me if they have had the same information? I've been told this before only to find out that it was still being produced. If it is indeed discontinued which other brand would be recommended. I had stomach problems with the first one that I had which I think was called Quinic or something like that. Thanks.
ZENTIVE Hydroxychloroquine : Hi everyone, I've hust... - LUPUS UK
ZENTIVE Hydroxychloroquine
Ask at an independent pharmacy if you have one nearby. Boots have given misinformation to several people on my home forum - usually because they are too lazy to go and find the real information. Ironic if the medication in question is distributed by the company that owns Boots ...
I collected mine the other day( not from boots) and they pointed out to me that the packaging has changed. Its pink.
I really hope that is the only change, as like you this is the only brand that doesnt cause stomach issues x
I would email Zentiva to get update, I’ve had to do this with boots and if that fails I’ve put written complaint to boots (they always have mine since then)
:- please contact us by email at UKMedInfo@zentiva.com or by telephone on 0800 090 2408
i was told by my local Boots it had been discontinued. I phoned Zentiva and was informed it hadnt been discontinued and there were no plans to do so. They asked me to get Boots to phone them so they could discuss the issue. It turns out Boots hadnt placed a stock order with them since July and the company that supplies Boots which is Alliance i believe had dropped it from their supplies. Anyway, Boots talking to Zentiva direct resolved the issue. The packaging has changed to pink but thats the only change Zentiva have made. Im sure Boots phoning customer services at Zentiva will get this resolved for you.
I have been told by Boots on many occasions that different meds I take are discontinued. I now use a local independent pharmacy with no issues. Zentiva has recently changed in that my last prescription was in a pink box. Quinoric also made me extremely unwell in the past, my rheumatologist now always puts on my prescription for Zentiva brand only.
had this problem with Zentiva a few years ago with Boots and also Lloyds. My local independant pharmacy always gets them for me. Quinoric was not nice !
I got mine last week, and like BonnyB says the packaging has now changed and it’s pink and blue rather than the pale greenish colour. Seems to be exactly the same otherwise as I’ve been taking it since getting it.
My last hydroxychloroquine (zentiva) was early August from Boots and I received it no problem it was still a greeny box then. I am due beginning of next month to put another one in so I'll see what happens.
They've started giving me one made by "accord" but never actually told me that zentiva was no longer available, it just changed. It's got a better coating than any other I've had so I would have thought it would be kind on your stomach.
It contains lactose, like zentiva (the Quinoric brand didn't), but I don't think it's enough to cause problems.
Thanks everyone for your replies. I got in touch with Zentiva directly and they told me that there are no problems there end so it's Boots giving me wrong info. so I will have to sort it out with them. Thanks again.
Sorry to hear that you’re having difficulties with your Zentiva prescription. I haven’t been able to get mine since my August prescription request. Fortunately I had a few spare. I emailed Zentiva direct to get an email back saying they can only discuss with the pharmacist. I tried to show my pharmacist (who is an independent not Boots) the email and they said their supplier is Alliance. Thank you Karina for info on Alliance. I’ve been trying to work out how best to resolve this as have had to take something else for the last week which I’m not happy with. It doesn’t appear to be Quinoric which I had once before and don’t wish to repeat. The annoying thing is my prescription says ‘ Zentiva brand’.
your situation is exactly the same as mine. I got in touch with Zentiva who said there were no problems with them and to get the pharmacy to email them and they would provide them with info. on where to get them. I did that this afternoon so I'm waiting to hear from Boots. It is annoying because my prescription also says that I need Zentiva. From what I can make out it's Boots suppliers that have discontinued supplying it, so it may be that we have to find another pharmacy who can provide them. Good luck with it all.
well i am still getting it, had some delivered last Friday x
Just picked up my Zentiva Hydroxychloriquine from Boots, so problem solved. Just shows what a little persistence can do. Thanks again everyone.
I too have just had an issue as I usually get Blackrock brand ( as requested on my script) . I have also previously had Zentiva, & Teva. The pharmacy refused to give me the Blackrock brand as said it was £7.11 a box. While the accord brand was £3.29 so under the drug tariff they wouldn't get paid the extra costs!?!
