lupus rash

I'm no expert, but it's definitely worth asking the GP for a referral. I know what you mean about the itching too, it xan drive you up the wall!
I haven't been diagnosed with lupus (but RA) but I did suffer terribly from exposure to sunlight. So much that I was referred to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where they have a specialist clinic to work out what affected my skin. They found that virtually every skin product I could identify caused a reaction except for E45 and Dermol which is specially formulated. They also prescribe a specially thick sunscreen called Dundee cream which is a almost total block. I just avoid direct sunlight exposure these days, live in Scotland where I dont get as much strong sunlight as in the south. I really dont mind having to stay in the shade or wear a hat - so much better than having that reaction. I hope you can find a way to deal with that.
I should add that it was the perfume in the skin products they said caused my reaction.
Have you tried taking antihistamine every day for the itch? Works wonders with me where ever my rashes are. I also use a mild steroid cream like elocon for when my rashes are particularly bad and unshiftable which I think is only on prescription. For infected rashes I have a part steroid part antibiotic cream. Clears it up pretty quick but as has been said you need to get to the bottom of why you have the rashes in the first place. Chemists are good to ask too if its difficult getting a gp appointment.
Thankyou for your replys I take fexofenadine hydrochloride 180mg daily and I use factor 50 sunscreen I have Mt dermatologist appointment next month I'm hoping I will get some answers x
You can see the rash better on this pic x
I used to get a rash like this before lupus sle diagnosis, it was always after being out in the sun. Once I got diagnosed and started taking hydroxychloroquine it hasn’t been so bad, but it might also be that I dont lay out in the sun anymore 😊 I still get itchy skin with a couple of odd raised bumps. Combination of moisturiser, antihistamine and steroid cream seems to help relieve it.
Hi,
I also get a rash like yours and my skin feels like I'm having scalding hot water poured on if I go in the sun ☹️ My rash looks almost like blisters under the skin (see pic)
I would really appreciate if you could give an update once you ve seen dermatologist. Good luck
😊 x
I get nasty sun rashes and hydrocortisone cream can help. The most helpful thing I have for sun protection is a UV umbrella. I got mine from Sunsibility and it's silver on the top and black underneath so you don't get any reflected light - well worth investing in.
