Lupus rash

Hi, My main symptoms are an itch on my neck, face, one shoulder and recently between my shoulder blades. I have puffy fingers and suffer with Raynauds Syndrome. Bouts of Fatigue too. I reduced my working hours to part-time as advised by my consultant. I had a number of tests and I was diagnosed with Lupus. I take Plaquenil twice a day.

I develop a rash on my left eyelid every so often. It seems to be a sign I am getting sick. I have had it the past month. It is itchy at times, but at the moment it just looks very red and dry. I have tried a variety of things. Nappy cream takes the itch away when it's really bad and usually I just need aloe vera to calm it down.

It's just not going away this time and getting me down. I have been unwell with flu and I am now on antibiotics for ear infections. I am hoping it will disappear when I pick up a bit. Just wondering if anyone has any advice how to clear it?

Thanks for reading.

Hello Lula1983,I saw your post it felt like i was reading my Exact symptoms. I have developed a rash on my back between my shoulder blades. I noticed it last month and tried moisturing with epimax lotion. However, this week feel worse, I feel really unwell, and rash feels bigger and the itchy is more. I have been feeling fatigued all week. I will talk to the GP about this, I guess you should too.

I use epimax ointment and hydromol for shower and it had stopped my itching years ago. I still use the now and I don't use any form of soap. See if you GP can prescribe them for you. Take care

See your gp. There are many levels of steroid creams which, if you get the right one, can stop the itch and often clear it. Even if you don't use it you have it on hand and on repeat prescription for the future. I have a nasty one at the moment and only the steroid cream clobetasol keeps it from driving me crazy itching 24 hours a day. Try and get a dermatology referral for long term management. I'm waiting for skin biopsies at the moment and possible medication adjustment after. Sometimes we get to a point where we need extra help fighting things. You can also send pics to your rheumy for advice.

I have skin lupus, you should be referred to a dermotologist who will prescribe the right ointment for you. I was given dermovate and elecon which helps keep mine under control. They would possible take a biopsy to make sure what it is before she prescribes but definitely worth seeing them.

I have had biopsy to confirm it's lupus and it's mainly my skin that is affected. I will ask at next appointment

I don’t know if this will help but I’ve noticed that my flare ups have a definite pattern and this is is the conclusion I’ve come to. I get really tired with intestinal symptoms with a need to sleep sometimes for 16 hours a day. Then I get an infection chest or kidney usually. Then I get a full body rash. Big red spots covering everywhere but my face and neck. It’s like the infection just overwhelms my often fragile system. This is calmed down by prednisolone and antibiotics. This can take a month to subside.

The point is by tracking my symptoms I can intervene with pre emotive steroids. Keep a journal if you can for me it often stops me from thinking I’m going mad with such wide ranging symptoms. It also helps with the depression that seems to accompany any lupus flare.

hi, Eumovate cream which is a steroid was prescribed to me by dermatologist clinic for lupus facial flares. If you aren’t under Dermatology then you need to be as with time lupus skin difficulties become different and change over time. Good luck
